Default trany probs

Hi everyone, ive got a vt berlina v6 with a dead trany and have been told its going to cost $1,800 to replace. I was wondering if any one knew how much it would cost to convert to a manual and is it possible to do.

Swapping to a manual in VT's is a lot more involved, some of the changes you will need are:
- Manual box, getrag
- dual mass flywheel
- pedal kit
- centre console alteration
- re-program memcal
- new engine loom
- new clutch

I have been quoted $3500-$4000 drive in drive out to get it done, but to me I can buy a whole other car with that sort of money so I went down to the wreckers and bought a working second handy, $500, and chucked it in myself, but it was a c@#t of a job without all the right tools, so I would recommend paying somebody the $200 bucks they ask for to do it.

Cheers
Toa

Wreckers usually only give you like a month or something, so it's a bit of a gamble there. Also a warranty doesn't cover labour if the tranny does stuff up.

But I had the same quoted prices as yourself and I took a bit of a gamble with the cheaper option as I'd rather have an extra grand in my wallet, the second hand tranny has done 120,000 kays since without missing a beat so I'm stoked.

If I could have got the change over to manual for 2 grand or so I would have jumped at it, but I couldn't justify spending $3500 on it, instead I bought a dirt bike.
