I have a problem with my vt calais, somehow water got in the car quite alot the drivers floor was saturated since then all the warning lights have come on and the alarm keeps sounding.holden dealer is saying it could be body control module and they want the car for two days .my query is how could that amount of water got into the car we have checked that there is no blockage the water is draining at the sides we put the car up on a hoist and checked that the valve near the gearbox for the air con was draining, holden tells me they will get a windscreen guy in to check that windscreen isnt leaking which i dont think it is there is no water on dash etc they also tell me they will put a fan under the dash to dry the control module can anyone tell me any thing i can do the rough estimate from holden is 1000.00 .we even tried disconnecting the battery to see if it would reset it didnt alls it did was i now have to pay to get a new code for radio can anyone help thanks in advance
Mate I'd be checking your heater hoses for leakage.
You can get second hand BCM's from wrecking yards which will cost you a fraction of the price of a new one, maybe around $100-200, but then you will have to pay for someone to put it in if you can't do it yourself but that won't cost much either, but then you will also have to get a holden dealer to program it in. A bit more stuffing around but you might end up with an extra $500 or more in your pocket at the end of the day.
Holden shouldn't charge you for the radio code, if they try to just get it from a different one.
My guess is that you have a VT series 1. Leaking windscreens is a known fault on all series 1 vehicles. Both of our series 1 cars (Calais and S-Pack) have had a windscreen leak letting in a huge amount of water which ends up in the footwells and leaks over the electricals. It is because they use a crappy 3 piece plastic seal (not really a seal) and then glue the windscreen in. When this glue bond breaks, the plastic doesn't do a damn thing to keep the water out. When you get it replaced, they will have to break the plastic seal off, cut the windscreen out, refit the windscreen properly, and then fit the new one piece reuseable rubber seal. And that should fix your problems.
The price for a removal/refit of windscreen with new seal is about the $250-300 mark i think. If you do it through a holden dealer I think they will guarantee the windscreen. This is good because these is a reasonably high possibility that the guy who does it (they always outsource the windscreen jobs) might break it when trying to remove it. Drying out the car is a good idea and once the BCM is all dry, it should be back to normal. It might also be a good idea to open it up and check that nothing is corroding and there is no moisture left in there.
