G'day. I have had the same problem with my VT for about 2 years now. It started off very intermitently with just the air bag light coming on and going straight off. Then it went to the air bag and the oil light, on and straight off. This would happen about 6 times in a 10k trip and then it might not do it again for a couple of weeks. Lately the thermo fan come's on at start up and only goes off when you turn the car off, also the engine management light come's on but i know that relate's to the gas. Now on start up i have a full symphony of light and sound. I have had an auto elec clear the history, then changed air bag module, didn't fix it, pulled dash appart and checked wiring, couldn't find anything. I took it to holden and they couldn't fing anything again as it doesn't always happen and it doesnt log a history so they cant trace it. Took it to another auto elec who is s'posed to be specialist, couldn't find anything either. He want's to change module just in case it works. no gaurantee, then pull all wiring out and charge me a fortune. Does anybody have any other reasonable idea's on how to fix this. I love my DORE and i want it fixed. I can only turn the radio up so loud. lol:bang:

I would suggest disconnecting your ABS module (pulling out the plug to the module) in your engine bay, then start the car up and see if you still have the entire ELO band going off. The ABS light will come up on your dash but that is normal because you don't have ABS connected, and it should be safe enough to drive your car without the ABS connected - just remember you don't have ABS so go easy on the brakes...hehe.

If the above method works, then you just need to replace the ABS module. Good luck.

You must have the base model executive which doesn't have abs/tcs, but airbag and srs?

If so, the only thing I could think of that is playing up is your body control module (BCM). the bcm works directly with your instrument cluster as well as other components in your car. Its rare the BCM will fail, but it doesn't mean that it can't happen...probably get someone to test your bcm or maybe swap it with another bcm of the same make and model as your car and see if the problem goes away.

The only problem with swapping BCMs is that the BCM and ECU need to be security linked, so you would need to go to Holden to have that done before you could start the car.

I have air bag and srs. I was told on 1 occasion that the bcm wasn't talking to the air bag module or the other way around. I am a bit worried about taking it back to holden after 4 times as they dont seem to know wot they are talking about. I dont mind paying to have it fixed, but i am not going to get ripped off. Also the holden dealer that i went to might not want to see me after my last visit. (i wasnt a happy camper and i let them know it) Can the bcm be checked by an auto elec?

Its a process of elimination and trial and error. I should think the bcm should be the last component to be suspect, so I'd check the airbag and srs modules first to make sure they are ok before looking at replacing the bcm.

I don't know of a Holden dealer wth a garage that shows any competency with diagnosing problems with their brand of cars - very ironic. I'm sure there are individuals who know a lot about VTs, but they are certainly a rare breed. What people dont understand is the computer diagnostic tools have limitations and it doesn't tell them everything that could be wrong with a car.

You might be better off taking your car to a commercial branded mechanic like Ultratune, Automasters etc. I have found these guys are better at diagnosing problems and fixing it, and doesn't cost as much as taking it to a Holden dealer.
