I've got a VX SS purchased it through holdens certified used car scheme. Now it's up for its 10,000Km service. Is it worth taking it in to keep the warranty? I'm a diesel mechanic by trade so services are no problem. I never orignally bought the car cause of the warranty just cause it has low ks and was certified so thinking that if holden are that confident in it that a DIY service should keep it going no probs. Also the dealer is about 50km from where i live. Does anyone know how long these used car services take? They are set price i belive $220. Also do they do anything special to the car that i couldn't do myself? Cheers
Lanny just service it yourself. Anything they do I'm sure you could do yourself. $220 would be for a regular service (oil, filters, plugs, and basic checks). Plus if you do it you know it's done right![]()
How much warranty is left? If you are going to modify they will void the warranty pretty quick anyway so it might pay to DIY. They might agree to let you service it at an accredited mechanic and retain the warranty to save the 50km trip if the car is to stay stock.
I have a 3 year used car warranty but it cost only $185. I was considering doing my own services but since the warranty covers a lot of things I decided to have it serviced by Holden even though I don't think you get you money's worth. I had it serviced earlier this week and they rang me and said the power steering pump and the link pins needed to be changed, at no cost to me. Imagine my surprise. It all depends on the dealer though. It's Paul Wakeling at Campbelltown if anyone is interested.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
$220 plus anything else that may need to be done. The agreed service rate (in your case $220) varies from dealer to dealer I think. My dealer is Suttons whereas my mum who also has a Holden used car warranty at a different dealer is a different rate.
I have that warranty thing also and in regard to modifying the car, it doesn't void the whole warranty just the parts you change ie you chuck in lowered springs they won't cover the new springs.
I don't like the whole Holden service thing even though I get mine done there (because of the warranty), I am not a mechanic and they could tell me I need to do **** that doesn't need to be done.. call me cynical but as if it doesn't happen. I'm a male who is a bit cluey on cars, imagine how young females with no idea would go?
the certified warranty isn't worth the paper its written on
it only covers $1000
I was in the same boat and voided my warranty and do the services my self
stuff paying $200 odd $ for some snot noise apprentice to service my car
