Hi, i am thinking of upgrading some of the interior components of my 98 VT Exec. I am considering purchasing a Wiring Loom and BCM, not sure if it's a VX or VT but i know it's a Berlina.
The BCM reads "92078 814 LUX G.M.H.A BODY CONTROL MODULE" I've tried googling this data with no luck.
It does come with a Key Head i must add. And i do realise i would need other components.
I am wondering if anyone out there knows much about the BCM and wiring looms, given the information above what electronically would this add to my model if any. i.e. Electric Windows, Climate Control, Traction Control etc, i just have no idea what i should expect and whether it would be worth it. The guy selling it doesn't know what model VT or VX but was as Berlina as i mentioned previously.
I am really keen to do the power window conversion hence my interest in this item.
Any advice appreciated, cheers, Daz.
That code is a Series 1 BCM for a VT Berlina. I know, cos I have one sitting infront of me (my old one)
That will enable you to have electric windows, climate control and cruise control (cruise i thought was optional for all BCM levels).
But be aware, most people who want climate control see what is required and then give up their idea.
For Climate Control you will need the following, maybe more
ECC HVAC (heater / aircon / ventilation box inside the cabin)
Climate Control interface (above stereo)
wiring looms to suit.
external air temp sensor
internal air temp sensor (if this isnt part of manual air con sytems)
Just so you know, you must get the LUX or HIGH wiring loom as the LOW and MID and ALARM BCM's all have the D connector on them which isnt part of the LUX or HIGH BCM's.
I Myself have upgraded my berlina's BCM from LUX to HIGH (calais / statesman) and it works a treat.
If i was to give you a tip, find a series 2 BCM so you get remote deadlocking.
Cheers, thanks for that. I am really interested in the electric windows side of things I guess more than anything, the other components would be a bonus and maybe projects for another time. The car already has Cruise and if you mean keyless entry (remote deadlocking) then It has that. I would assume any model from exec up would almost have these features as standard?
You right though, if i have to install a different loom it would be best to go a Calais one wouldn't it.
One other question, do i need to upgrade the wiring loom to fit electric windows or can i just get new door looms. Or do i need both?
I have included a picture of the loom, i see sensors are included.
Thanks, Daz.
You will need the door looms for the windows but make sure you get the right ones because VT series 1 looms are different to the series 2 looms. The VT series 2 looms are the same as the VX.
Remote deadlocking is where you press the lock button on the remote twice and this prevents the doors from being opened from the inside. In the event of a smashed window people can't then open the doors.
As dazza33 said, upgrading to climate control is a big job.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
So from what I read:
I need to upgrade the wiring loom and BCM to LUX or HIGH to add the power windows.
I need to obtain door looms appropriate to the Model/BCM type S1 or S2.
The HIGH BCM and loom would be the better option.
I would also assume the upgraded BCM and loom would have all the standard features such as Cruise etc, and they would plug straight back into the new loom. I would also assume that in the interim as I wouldn't be connecting up anything other than the standard gear and the power windows this would not have any adverse effect on other instruments etc.
Also would the upgraded loom include those wires that run up the centre console for the switch to operate the power windows? And do any of the upgraded BCM's and looms have the fog lights or are they separate again? I wouldn't mind knowing how i find out what the LUX or HIGH give you in terms of extra components.
This D connector is the key then?
Finally, so if i didn't want all that other stuff, deadlock etc, the above loom I am considering buying would be ok, i would just need to get the series 1 door looms?
Thanks a million, Daz.
Cheers, Darren

Just need to know in sort of a hurry, do i need to upgrade the BCM and wiring loom in a 98 VT Exec to install the power windows.
Cheers, daz.
Power windows can be installed without upgrading the BCM and wiring loom, there are kits out there and even without it, wouldnt require much wiring to get them working.
On my 97 VT, it came standard with a MID level BCM and power windows. The rest of the wiring loom though is mainly exec standard fare.
Not long ago I replaced the whole harness with that from a series 1 VT berlina (was supposed to be series 2, the wrecker lied to me), and a series 2 calais bcm (from another wrecker, as I wanted remote deadlocking). easily the hardest thing for it all was trying to get the fusebox through the hole in the firewall. Everything else is a straightforward swap.
If you can get the parts cheaply enough and don't mind getting your hands dirty I would highly recommend doing so, especially in a series 1 VT. The cars like new once you put it all back together.
Going to give it it a go, will just get the berlina loom as I'm not interested in the deadlocking. How deep into a dash disassemble does it need to go? Is it like an afternoon thing in the garage or a bit more than that? Has anyone come across any sort of documented detail of sorts to replace this?
Cheers, Daz.
Best bet is to just get a good workshop manual, like a gregory's. It'll tell you everything you need to know. As for how long, give yourself at least a day if it's your first time, you'll need to take out pretty much everything, carpet included. Deadlocking is standard from VT onwards, the only difference is that the series 2 onwards allowed for remote deadlocking via the remote - can be easily added just by using a series 2 bcm rather than series 1, no other changes required
