Default What rims can I put on my VT (stud patterns??)

This might seem like a stupid question, but after having spent a couple of hours at beaurepairs today, I want to make sure I'm looking for the right rims before I go and buy a new set for my VTii wagon.. (Explanation follows, question at end if you wan to skip )

Only bought the car 6 weeks ago, and have been meaning to go and buy 'correct' wheel nuts for it.. - the ones that are on it, are 21mm (well, one 19mm and four 21mm on each wheel), so I can't get a wheel brace on.. I've been tied up working on WYD for the last six weeks, so haven't been able to sort it out..

Finally went into the local beaurepairs (who was always great when I had issues with the steering/suspension on my '87 hilux) today, to sort out the nuts, to have the manager come out and have a look and go 'those rims aren't for your car!'. Seems while it's a 5-stud pattern, the studs on the hubs are a little too far from center for the wheels, so the nuts sit to the outer edges of the holes in the rims..

'Thats not tooooo bad' says the guy, 'we'll just fit up the hub spacers which seem to be missing, and you should be ok despite that'.. Then find that because they're ROH mags (who apparently went out of business a while back), they can't get spacers that fit.. - so the wheels quite happily slop around on the studs while the nuts are off (and probably explains the weird clunking noise I'm getting in the front end, when the nuts are done up..).

So I'm told I need new rims.. Sure.. But I don't really want to buy new rims and tyres.. - I'm over the whole 'cool, I have slick mags and grippy tires, my car is sick thing' - I just want a car that works (i traded my luxie in on the commodore so I could have something with power steering.. SERIOUSLY don't GAF what the wheels look like..). The fellow tells me that it's about the same price to buy a set of steel rims (aka what they come out of the factory with) as it is to get the cheapest set of mags they had (~$500), but I"m thinking that if they're compatible, a set of vr/vs calais/statesman mags with tyres on ebay should be WAY cheaper than that..

SO.... the question.. - what model commodore rims, WILL fit onto the VT? Can I just find a 2nd hand set off a VR/VS? or is the VT different? Until today, I'd thought 5-stud was just 5-stud, but apparently it's not!

    Thanks,

    Damien

all commodores have the same stud pattern
    but VE have smaller hubs
you should be able to get the hub rings to suit the rims you have
try another tyre shop ,try bob jane T mart they have a few different sizes
I wouldnt be driving around with rims with the wrong hub size as all the weight of the car is on the wheel studs not on the hub where it should be
the wheel studs arent designed to hold the weight of the car they are only meant to hold the rim to the hub which supports all the weight

I agree with him ^^^^^. Go to a wreckers or ebay, get a set of stock rims off anythin from VB-VZ an they will fit straight on, no probs. There are many wheels out there u can get. Why not post a thread askin for basic commodore wheels in your general area... trust me, im sure manyother blokes like myself have spares layin around. you will get somethin cheap

I think you can fit BMW wheels, Guy once had HSV wheels in his BMW, And he had BMW wheels on his hsv. Something different.

Cheers guys, will pull one of the wheels off and measure up the inner/outer sizes i need on the rings, and go visit a few other shops, see what I can see.. failing that, wreckers is a darned good idea! Was looking at it this morning, and I need new tyres all around anyways - they looked alright when I bought it, but checking the odo today, i've done almost 10kkm in the six weeks I've had it (wyong->syd->back 7 days a week, plus lots of driving to and fro across syd between worksites - has been pretty insane!).. Bloody lucky I haven't had a stud break from the force though!

It's funny, I thought when I traded i the old 'lux for a commodore, that I'd be going to a car that never needed touching except for it's services (aka same as my 25-year-old bmw k100rt bike), so far all my spare time as been fixing little 'niggles'.. (I had 18 globes blown in the dash/centre console?!?!?!)

Ahh well, once the wheels are sorted, I just have to figure out why there's no signal getting to the A/C relay under the bonnet, even though the A/C light under the button on the dash toggles on and off.. Hopefully just a broken wire between the BCM and the under-bonnet fusebox..

    Cheers guys,

Ended up buying a near-new set of mags with near-new tyres on them off ebay.. - Young fellow had bought them for his VN, and put a worked V8 in at the same time.. and then found that the 16"'s weren't grippy enough and gone out and bought some wide 18's.. 400 bucks for 6-month old mags (same brand as the local beaurepairs sells - speedy wheels), with tyres with only 1000km or so on them.. - means I know i can get the hub spacers, and they've got new tread on them, so they're worth it just for the tread

Now I just have to sort out the aircon signal not making it from the dash to the relay under the bonnet, and why my power steer doesn't work at idle, and I"m finally done!!
