    Default catback in SA

    Hey all,

Am planning on getting a nice 2.5" catback for my VX exec S2.

I was wondering If anyone has any recommendations for places to get it done in Adelaide. I am in the N/E btw but I don't mind driving really

Also re the actual system I am still not sure what would be the better option, either only front resi OR only rear muffler. From what I have been reading the front resi option gives the sound a bit more growl but it has a tendency to drone while the rear muffler only makes the sound deeper but quieter with less drone? is that right?

Ideally it would sound something like this and this (same car) but the owner is not sure what the actual setup is except it is lukey with stock headers on a standard ecotec. Not sure but it sounds like it may have some drone at the lower revs, but the higher revs sound sweet

    Hey mate,

If your in N/E Adel get on down to " Everlast mufflers at Ridgehaven" they did my system

YouTube - VT V6 Exhaust note, idle and revs

Very good set up with hardly any drone. Str8 through centre muffler and Str8 through rear resinator. Stock cat and extractors. Cost about ~$300

EDIT: in the link to the video in your first post it sounds very much like that vt has NO rear muffler/resinator
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone

Chapest prices in adelaide are at Aussie Discount mufflers, cnr port road and south road.
i bought some new extractors from there for $300. The also deal Supercat mufflers, which IMO are the best sounding muffler on ecotecs. (i have had 4 different brand mufflers on mine! lol)
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

Sounds good especially if I go with the redback system. Your system sounds cool but I wont be getting extractors on mine. I think you may be right about the one in the clip, probably a front lukey muffler and thats it, will see if he can have a look

I was also wondering what 2.5" redback setup most people use? front resi and then straight through pipe?

i think you will find that its a pretty even spread. having no resinator will make it much louder and more high pitch. with the resinator it reduces the amount of noise and can also make it deeper. Persoanlly i wanted something better than the standard exhaust gasses rushing out but didnt want it to be so loud that everyone would hear it 25 miles away.

Hey bud profix modbury do cat backs for $250 and if you ask mick real nice he might throw in a tip, also they use super cat box's as i saw some one else mention above. There system runs one small muffler in the standard spot in the middle of the car and straight through rear pipe.

Thats a good point, I am sure that I would find it kind of annoying if it was constantly roaring even when driving normally.. after all it is stock otherwise.. better to hear it when you decide to give it a little I guess

Hey mate, cheers for the tip, and its close too, will check it out
Haven't actually heard any supercats but they seem to get positive remarks, any indication as to how they sound compared to redbacks and lukeys in a 1 muffler setup?

Well i have super cat box's in mine but ive got a twin 2 1/4 with 3 boxes to keep it quiet!! that and i pulled the supercharged badges of the side to keep it a lil bit sleeper, it tricks those pesky XR8's. If you give profix a ring a bloke called marty can give you some real good info on resi's and mufflers and there effets on sound, he does good work.

Am yet to follow up on the exhaust. Trying to source some decent rims first so It is not a completely stock exec roaring past

After listening to some soundclips I think I will go with the supercat, here is a vs with the same 2.5" setup YouTube - Vs Exhaust

Of course I would love it to sound like this: YouTube - vs commodore v6 exhaust but you know, budgets have to be kept

i'll back aussie discount for price and they did a great job on my 1st VS s3. 2nd VS s3 went to Exhaust Techniques on Gouger st in town on recommendation from mate. Bit pricier (got couple tips thrown in on my VU, good blokes if u get to know them and have bit of a chat). Tell them what you want to hear and they know exactly what to do (in my experience).

I ended up getting the Supercat 2.5" system from ProFix Modbury with the single muffler and oval tip. Cool bunch of guys, did a good job with it. Sounds good for the price too, cant expect magic from a stock v6 with no extractors . Thanks for the help everyone, now its time to cruise around a bit

just dont go too profix pooraka. And I was told by Exhaust plus salisbury that 2.5 on a v6 is a bit of a waste better off sticking too 2.25. They lose too much down low in revs.

    Dont go to ANY profix.

And what exhaust plus at salisbury said is a load of crap, 2.5 is not a waste at all. 2.25" is the stock exhaust size im fair sure.
