Question Exhaust Advice

Sorry to start another exhaust thread. I have spent some time searching through but haven't really found the answers I wanted.

I have a VT Exec S1 with a Eco6. I'm asking for some advice on what exhaust to get. I'm only really looking for a better sound, not particularly performance. It doesn't have to be anything spectacular... Just so it doesn't sound like a VT Exec S1 Eco6.

I only have a budget of $500. From what I've read it seems that should be enough for what i want.

I've pieced together advice from various post and it seems what I'm looking for is a 2.5" cat-back sports exhaust? And that it should cost me between $300-500.

Is this right and can anyone suggest any particular brand or anything else I will need?

I'm really just trying to get a good, respectable sound instead of the vacuum cleaner noise i have now.

I'm in the western Suburbs of Melbourne too if anyone can recommend a fitter.

Thanks in advance for any help!

2 1/2" Redback Catback, your right, has a great note. Don't pay anymore than $275 fitted with tips.

Cheers, Darren

hey man in sa profix do 2 1/2 cat backs for $250 plus tips so any thing over $300 is a bit rich unless its a twin. for you $500 budget you cloud go nice shiny stainless but doesn't make a huge sound difference will just take longer to rust

+1 on the hotdog before the tip...

Also I personally would go Mild steel over SS purely because mild steeal gives a deeper note than SS.

Its got to do with Mild Steel being softer than S/S so it absorbes the higher frequencies... something like that anyway.

What you get really depends on what you want it to sound like. For example do you want it loud, quite or somewhere in between? Also does drone bother you because most nice sounding exhausts on the ecotecs have either straight pipe in the back or a hotdog. This means no rear muffler which means it will drone in the cabin.

I have a 2.5" redback catback exhaust with a hotdog in the back. I love the sound of it. It's nice and deep. It's quite at low rpm but gets loud past 2300rpm.

hey mate i got a vy ute with a ecotec 6 i kept original headers added 2 highflow cats and matched to the 6 litre twin stainless exhaust system. easy to get the 6 litre exhausts as most v8 guys change them so exhaust shops should have a few laying around.mine is quiet on idle but when it gets a bootful sounds deep and has a rumble to it performs great too and most of it bolted straight in hope this helps
