gearshift loose

hi,guys and girls...my vt ss series 1 getrag gearshift seem to have a lot of play in it,is there anyway to tighten it up or is it stuffed,also can it be cut down and can i put a different gearknob on than the factory one..please explain

I had the same problem with my 5speed getrag,i was told there are plastic-nylon bushes
on the shifter mechanism that wear,it one of those jobs i still have not got around to?
as for modifying shifter length not sure.
