Firstly are you shure you have an LSD ? (look for a small aluminium tag located on the diff, it will tell you)
If so Refer below link
....................VX SS LSD oil
What oil did you guy ? Most already ahve it in it. Its the Sturacco. I got a synthetic oil with it in already, cause i wasnt sure if i had lsd or not.
1) lol yes it is an lsd
2) its Shell LSD oil!
Cheers guys
He'd be talking about "Friction Modifier". Even repco should stock it. Well worth throwing in.
One of my old VTs had a really clunky diff and before I bought a new LSD, I tried some friction modifier (might have been Nulon brand?). Ran like new again![]()
sweet cheers man
Just had Holden change my diff oil and add the additive and also had the pinion seal replaced as apparantly the additive is not compatible with the old style seals and can leak given time, made a big difference to mine, no more chatter or clunks, see the attached Holden Service Bulletin below:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
LSD Chatter - The original oil and friction modifying additive used in VT and early VX commodores with LSD, can in some cases be innefective in adequately lubricating the LSD unit, depending on operating temperatures. GMH, in conjunction with SAA (Spicer Axle Australia, formerly BTRE), have revised the oil and additive used to help improve lubricating qualities.
GMH use Mobilube SHC ID (1.5ltrs) in LSD units along with the revised friction modifier (100ml). They suggest no other alternative! The new oil and modifier requires the existing Viton material pinion seal to be replaced with a new Polyacrylic material pinion seal.
The shell version is good. Is it the Spirax ?? There is a shell one with already the additive in in. This stuff is expensive but meant to be one of the best.
I used Penrite Sin gear 80. I upgraded from a 80W90 to a 75W140 both $50 for 2.5 litres, so enough for flushing. Slightly thicker at operating. Its also fully synthetic with Esters, so this will swell any gaskets. Also its loaded with the max amount of diff chatter additive, dont need to add seperate. Castrol, Shell all have one like this, same as Mobil. Should not need to add anything to their top of the range stuff Castrol SAF-XA ......etc.
The key is to use enough Additive to just shutt it up, as the additive is actually not beneficial as it caused it to slip more than it should and takes up lubrication eg less oil.
penrite have an additive thats gold, just cant remember the name
