Speakers - sub woofer vs 9 x 6 speakers
I have searched through the site and found various articles but none that solves my dilemma
I have a VX11 Acclaim with a standrad sound system
Quite happy with it except for the lack of bass, I don't want anything too powerful, not interested in ratlling the boot or number plate!!!
I have looked at various sub woofer units, but most of these will cost over $500 with amplifiers, convertors, mods to wiring connections (rca?), installation etc etc.
There are also a wide range of 9x6 speakers for use on the rear parcel shelf, but I'm told my head unit won't adequately power them and I would need an amplifier
I am leaning towards a Fusion Bass Tube as this has it's own amplifier and remote switch for use within the cabin
My questions are:
Does my vehcile already have wiring in the boot for rear shelf speakers?
What 9x6 speakers would you recommend that could be adequately powered by my standard head unit while offering better bass responses>
How would I get power and audio supply to the Fusion Bass Tube?
Any recommended supplier and/or installers in Adelaide?
Many thanks
Paul

Premium sound in the VXII Calais includes 8" subs on the parcel shelf and an amp. This is pretty good - better than a bass tube by a long shot, and a much tidier setup.
Amped 6x9s would also be a good option for you I'd think - pretty sure you will have no wiring in place, and mounting them up may be tricky?
The factory amp and subs are often going on ebay for $150ish as people look to rattle their boots with something bigger.
My suggestion to you would be to look at fitting the 8" subs if you can get a hold of any.

I have 6x9s in my VS commodore on the rear shelf, i think they are fine had to do a bit to get them in but not overall that difficult. Really 6x9s are commonly rate for about 300watt max power and about 100w rated power, the average head unit puts out 50w of power, so a 6x9 speaker connected straight to the head unit is only getting half the rated power and can go up to 6x the rated power to max of 300w! So if you really want your 6x9s to kick then you need an amp, just my two cents, for the record i bought sony xplode 6x9s 3-way 300w max, kenwood 6"s 180w max and a kenwood head unit putting out 50w to each speaker. No amp As i dont think i need my car any louder.

headunits do about 20watts rms per channel. Not 50 watts.

I just put 6x9s in my parcel shelf and there is a significant amount of bass increase but nothing like what I was after. I wanted basically what you want, bass for me and not the neighboring cars but the 6x9's dont quite cut it. I am now looking into a 10 or 2x 8 inch sub for the boot to get a little more.
Also my 6x9's were pioneer 300 watts running from an amp so they werent underpowered either. Either way you go for bass you will want an amp and then the price of a set of 6x9 are similar to a sub anyway so yeah.

you may be able to build ported boxes for the 6X9s to increase the bass response
6X9s have about the same cone area as 8inch woofers

a decent pair of pioneer basalt fibre 6/9s will give you all the bass you need and not your neighbours, they are pretty expensive though, ebay has em for about 300. personally i would go for a decent pair of 6/9s as i have had various subs before in my vt and the it didnt go very well with the stock speakers. thats my two bobs worth anyway
