where is the ECT sensor?

i hear the engine coolant temp sensor is on the drivers side head. its a vx ss 01 model. please anyone can you tell me where it is? i cant find it. and does this need to be changed when the engine is cold? and can i do it myself without a hoist or anything other than a pretty basic tool kit?
