Apart from spending too much time in the garage lavishing care attention and modifications upon the VX, a more recent problem has raised its ugly head.
The VX has a full clubsport kit painted and fitted by me including the rear boot spoiler ,our driveway is on a bit of a slope and when she who must be obeyed came home with the shopping the other day she opened the boot to get the stuff out and whamo down comes the boot lid on her head (its about now that the s**t hits the fan).
My question : I believe that the clubsport has gas struts to support the extra weight of the spolier can any one confirm this and post a picture so that I can fit one and thereby avoid the dog box in future.
Cheers
all the vx's have the gas struts, ive got them on mine, wudnt think ther too hard to install m8![]()
all commodores have some type of strut or spring to support the boot my guess is yours are worn out or are not strong enough to support the weight of your spoiler a couple of things you can do are get them regassed or buy stronger ones to support the extra weight i attached a pic of there location this is from my vx
I guess your car did what all us blokes want to do to our other half. Are you gonna call your car Christine now?
Ebay have new struts for both bonnet and boot for around $35 bucks...

Give him a try, he has 3 different types, standard, spoiler, and wagon. He claims they are all the same length. So wagon ones owuld hold it up you would think. But normal spoiler ones should do the trick being new, its just yours will be worn.
Im going to grab a set and see if i can adapt them to the VK.
I've bought Gas Struts from this guy on Ebay for my Old VS when the original ones died.
Gas Strut Guys
Did the job perfectly and are very easy to install. Just Make sure you get the ones rated to support the spoiler as well, the standard ones aren't strong enough to take the extra weight of the Spoiler.
If they are not listed, ask him, I'm sure he can get them.
Yeah same thing is happening with my hood, I was working on it, walked away and BANG it shut. Woulda taken my head off haha.
I have a Clubbie kit too, and a few months back my boot struts stopped holding the weight of the boot. Got some of those Ebay struts and they work beautifully. Of course now my bonnet struts are about had it, a tiny bump and down comes the bonnet to say hi to your head. I think I made the young dude at the transmission joint crap himself when he was draining the transmission fluid and WHAM the bonnet comes down while he was under the car. At least the older guys and me got a laugh out of it, the young dudes face was priceless, probably thought the car was about to fall on him.
