    Default What are these things?

Hi all. I'm am trying to work out the purpose of these things in the boot of my car. There are a couple on each side of the boot. Sorry about the quality of the photos, they were taken a few minutes ago with my mobile phone. They have a rubber flap or something on each one that only lets stuff (air?) out.
I am trying to sound deaden my boot but these things make a fairly large amount of noise when those flaps start moving (when the subs are going). So I want to know if I can cover them up or anything, or even stick them open?

    Any help is appreciated.

They are a one way type of vent . Block them off , wind up all your windows then try and shut your door .They stop your car from being air tight . They also for hot days when the air inside your car expands .The old Mini was air tight and it was on quite a few occasions that the windows would blow out on extreme hot days

i jus pulled those flaps off, stops the noise they make when they flap and leaves the hole open.
only problem i find is a whole lot more smoke comes in when you light them up, no problem with water coming in though

Thanks fellas. I think I might just take them all off, cover the holes with sound deadener then poke some finger size holes in one on each side. Should be enough.

Has anyone found a way to stop them rattling without removing or blocking them off?
This is the only rattle I have in my VS, and I just can't figure out what to do about it

You could try keeping them open all the time. But if your chasing good sound (bass) like me then it won't be as good as a sealed boot.
