I'm just after a bit of information, I've looked around on the net but can't kind find anything. I want to know what the weakest point of an ecotec is. When i say 'weakest point' i mean what has the lowest power rating, pistons, push rods, crank, heads etc.
The reason i'm looking for this information is so i know what exactly i need to strengthen before chasing decent power.
Any info would be appreciated. Cheers
VX Executive S2
VZ monaro front end, GTO rear lights, VX SS rear bar & side skirts, 18" deep dish Apec rims, 18% tint, crystal side indicators
SUSPENSION: D2 damper and height adjustable coil overs, RDA drilled and slotted gold rotors, Green stuff brake pads, Whiteline strut brace
ENGINE: Port & polish heads, FIT 1.9 rockers, polished twin TB plenum, port & polish 71mm AFM, Pro racing series 10mm top gun ignition leads, FIT laser cut heat shields, lukey cat back, manifold heat insulator
as far as i can tell the heads are not fantastic but can be milled to be quite good. Im not sure about the bottom end.
If anything id say the weakest link is that they become fireballs
over revving breaks cranks. my tuner broke several. He said rods arent that great for big power either. This is n/a power though
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

Weakest link on/in the ecotec is the ecotec itself lolbut with that said i just bought street commys dvd and its got a VS on the front with a V6 pulling 9 and a half sec 1/4s so they can be built to perform! In all honesty i would say rockers and cams are what likely to play up in them!!

Depends what your going to do, any standard (mostly) motors that come out in a holden are not meant for hardcore/race purposes. Once you start treatign them like crap they tend to break, theres no saying whats going to go becasue it could be a rod, piston, crank, bearing, etc..
If your planning on forced induction or other heavy mods, get everything machined, blueprinted and shot peened/treated other wise your going to continue to run into drama's...
thats what most commodore drivers dont get, notice how so many members sign up today, but you dont hear from them in a few year? most of the time there car has turned to rat **** from the abuse given, and poor maintainence.
Rear main seal??

I recon the weakest part of an ECOTEC if the little wanker hoon behind the wheel pushing the pedals, who doesn't know when to stop fantasizing of being some big time race driver in something that was never meant to be!
I was led to believe the pistons are a bit on the weak side
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
the rockers and leaking oil
[DSRPTV]
10.1:1 comp + big ass cam
weakest part of an ecotec is the transmission
getrag is in no way an improvement over the t5's
auto is nothing to write home about either
LOL.

buy an ls1 = instant power. compared to what a v6 will do anyway.
13.3 1/4 exhaust only untuned!
