my speed o has stopped

caming home from work today i took off from a set of lights and it felt like my gear box golted for a 2nd and then my car was all fine and i looked down to see how fast i was going and noticed my speedo was not working???????

dose any one know what i may have done????
how could i fix it????

i have a 5speed in it not sure what kind of box tho
if there is alot of kinds of box how can i find out what i have???

You may have damaged the speed sensor which is at the rear of the transmission on the driver's side.
