1998 VT Commodore Berlina
220,000kms
3.8L V6 Auto
2 month old 18" internationals + tyres
factory black leather interior
King Springs (Lows - i think)
asking price: $8,700 (he said he would accept 8,500 tho)
i have taken it for a test drive, all is good.. had an RAA check on it today and was wondering if you guys could put some prices on whatever you know so i can get an idea of what to offer him. i was considering offering 8 grand, but could get a bit more off it now the check has been done. any help would be great.
here is the list:
-radiator/coolant flush needed (contaminated)
-corroded battery terminals
-left head light glass has stone chips
-left engine mount needs replacing
-oil seepage underside of sump
-windscreen washers inoperative
-uneven tyre wear (wheel alignment needed)
-both front radius rod links deteriorating
-dents/distortion to radiator support + panel and lower cross member
-deteriorated boot in left ball joint
-left steering rack boot split
-rear drive shaft boots seeping oil
-rear brake pads needed at next service
-gearbox seeping oil (clean and re-check)
-bonnet struts need replacing (bonnet closes without warning!)
-front grill - clips broken (have been glued)
-paint/panel repairs evident in rear, front and left front of bonnet
-dents in floor pan
i know lots of this stuff wont need doing, but just trying to gather as much of a list as possible so i can talk the price down.
want to be able to say to him, "look mate, i am looking at spending around **this much** but for these things to be repaired it is going to cost me **this much** (say 500 bucks - it wont be but just for use here) so how about we take 400 off the price?"
anyway, you get what i mean
any comments appreciated
I used to work at repco and these are rough guesses off the top of my head
Coolant flush - $35
Terminals - $10
Headlight - $120 (cheaper from wreckers)
Engine Mount - $30
Sump Gasket - $15
Washer Pump - $15
Wheel Alignment - $40
Radius Rod Links - $60
Ball Joint Boot - $15
Steering Rack Boot - $15
Drive Shaft Boots - $30
Brake Pads - $30
Auto Trans Service Kit - $30
Bonnet Struts - $110 (regassed is cheaper)
Front Grill $20-30 (wrecker)
Don't want to put you off, but $8k is a bit over priced for a vehicle with thos K's. Have a peek at Universal Motor Auctions, Torrens road Brompton, S.A, Exec's and Berliners go for between $4-$6 with lower K's. Check out there web site. I would be lucky to get $5K for my 'nothing wrong' Acclaim wagon with a lot less K's
Mate you can have this for 8.5..

But seriously, A few things seem weird, I don't remember the factory option for black leather, Especially when the interior was Grey.
In all honesty, I think you could do much better, S1 Berlina? if it's legit, It's Overpriced.
As a guy thats gust done a full VIV RWC etc.. Much of the things wrong need fixing for the RWC, If he offers you one fear it, Only trust your own people on RWC and check up of the car.
You can't have oil leaks anywhere, They will pick you up, More then likely you will need rear shorten shocks, Thats if they pass it's height, Camber/Toe kit, New tyres.
Washers are a must, One of my washers was spraying higher towards the roof, This was a fail that needed to be fixed, These ones don't work..
They will pick up at all the bushes and pads etc.
One other thing, Has the front of the car been in an accident would you know?.
Some of the things described to the grill and rad support are familiar to my front from my VP's accident, The little dints and grill issue.
I think you can do yourself much better mate, It's not my decision in the end it's totally up to you.
