Ok my 1st thread in here didn't seem to popular as it appeared that I had or was buying a HSV, anyways I flew up to Sydney last week to by a 97 Acclaim, after flying all the way there and having the dealer pick me up I wasn't impressed with the car, it was nothing like what I saw in the photo's, anyways, instead I drove home in a Bermuda Blue (Color I swore never to buy) 97 Exec which happened to be an extra $2000 but the dealer feeling bad about the other one and the fact I'd gone so far out of my way to look at it gave me this one for the same price, pretty standard, auto, v6, window tint, rear spoiler, cruise, the radio didn't work so it was a long drive back home to sunny Victoria...... not it was pizzin down rain.
Put an mp3 player in it the other day so much happier now, got 760 k's out of the 1st tank of fuel, could of gone maybe another 40 to 50 k's apparently but I didn't want to trust the trip computer to much and I had no idea at all where the next servo was.
Drives pretty well, better than I expected, only has 15" stockies with hub caps, I was thinking about putting 18's under it but I kinda like the way it rides as it is and I really don't want to lower it and put big wheels under it if I'm gonna lose the ride quality, so I get back home and it drops all it's water on my driveway, thinking the worsed I filled it back up with water the next morning at it turned out to be one of the O rings that goes down in near the water pump, thank god for that.
It still needs a few little adjustments like a new drivers seat, fix the passenger door as it can't be opened from the outside, is this a common fault, and with the laws being the way they are I can't change it into my name with the current rego unless I'm a resident of NSW, I ain't gonna waste 4 months rego so the dealer said not to worry about it, just leave it and if I get any fines he'll send em to me, bonus, 4 months to get it road worthy and then transfer it, will send it in for it's 1st check when I've had time to look into fixing the passenger door..
Anyhoo that's my story at the moment, when I get a chance to wash it and take some pics I'll post em on here.
ps: now be prepared for all my nagging about "hey, what do I do now".
Nice, welcome to the VT owners club! hehe. I may be wrong, but I thought that all cars sold by licenced dealers needed to be roadworthy? If that is the case, then the rear door should have been working prior to sale, or the dealer should pay for repairs, I'm pretty sure you're covered by statutory warranty. I would be talking to the dealer to see if you can arrange something to get it fixed. Also, not sure how Vicroads works, but I know in places like ACT, you can transfer ownership and retain however many months of rego you had. I'd put in a call to vicroads to make sure. I also agree about ride quality and comfort. I upgraded to FE2 with Monroe GT shocks and 16" S wheels and have not lost any ride comfort or quality, in fact have improved considerably.
I hope you get many many years of hassle free motoring out of your VT like I have.
How did you go about fixing the door, just the other day I greased up the bit the clicks onto the C (on the car), door now works fine, but not sure if it will stay good?
Anyhoo interesting story you have there, would be great to see some pics
workin 13 days straight at the min so the door hasn't even been looked at yet, by the time I'm finnished work I just can't be shagged playin with it, will let u know how I get on, might take a look next Saturday, gotta do a service on oil, filter, coolant etc anyways
ok, pulled my door trim off today and it appears that a piece of plastic that is joined to the rod across the top of the handle has snapped, is this a replaceable part or am I up for a new door handle??
