    Default Bridgestone tyres

its almost a year till i get to replace the tyres on the vx again. is that 'normal'? i was on a tight budget the last time i had to buy whole new sets of tyres for my vx, but i sure wish the sonar sx1 tyres i am using now had lasted me for more than a year. i do a lot of highway driving around 120-140km twice a day for a 90km return trip to and from work. weekends, the vx sits under the garage for a day.

now that the missus has no objection to getting a new set of tyres what would you choose from? saw bridgestone RE050 tyres, the GR80 and the MY01. all superb tyres. any opinions?

i think i may have set up a thread before about tyres, just wish the tyres had lasted longer. the sonars were excellent in the wet and dry, ran relatively quiet and was a good price.

is it a series 1 vx? i got about 35k out of my rears before the camber chewed right through it(sub + 20kg of tools dont help with that), the fronts are still going strong with heaps of tread left. just keep your tyres pumped up to reduce road friction to get a bit more life out of your tyres aswell

i just tend to go for cheapy brands as they get me from a-b

Have you thought about putting a camber kit in the rear ? They don't fix the problem completely but they do help with the inner tyre wear . Do what i did and take you car to a reputable wheel aligner and get them to throw it on the machine and get the readout for the rear camber and toe in . Mine was out a fair bit due to the bushes distorting from old age . I got a 4 point kit installed and have done over 40,000 Kays and the wear across the tread is pretty even.

For cheap tyres I've found Supercats really good. Stiff sidewall and good wet grip too and quiet, just don't look like Bridgestones.

im running 235/45/17 supercats ($128 each, now about $135 i think), and they are excellent, one year on and the wear is fairly even and they've even taken a beating at two defensive driving days and from towing a boat, plus as chargedvx6 said they dont look like bridgestones.

first off get a camber kit for the back as mentioned, you'll never get good tyre life unless you do this, secondly maike sure you go in every 10k ( AT LEAST ) for a rotation, balance and wheel alignment this will help to ensure maximum tyre life thirdly if you want the best Bridgestone around go for the Bridgestone Adrenelin RE001 if you want something for a little less cash go for the Supercat ( as mentioned ) or he firestone TZ100.

Go Dunlop SP3000A's or 300A's depending on rim size, cheap well performing tyres. They also have great wear. I would not touch cheap bridgestone with your mothers car

When i had the VS i put a set of ER30 16/205 bridgestones on it at 84,000 k's i sold it at 130,000 k's on it that was about 3 years ago and the new owner has just put on a set of tyres cant tell ya the k's cost me $1,200 on holotype "R" mags
I recently put a set of ER300 16/225 on the magna,so far they are exellent quiet, good in the wet ect,but they will put ya back around $200 each, biggest enemy is low tyre pressures as already mentioned

Its because you got a series 2 , they are a bit kinder to the rear tyres

Do you spin the wheels or drive like grand-pa.
I wish the stock bridgestones would wear out so i can justify some better tyres
