Default Chrome grill on vt: this is how to do it cheap..

i discoverd how to make my grill chronme on my berlina (full chrome) for 15 bucks unless you want to pay 70 on ebay

    You need:
1 can of paint stripper from supercheap
    1 screw driver
    1 rag
    pressure hose

1st take the grill off unless you want a respray.

2nd spray the grill with the paint stripper, let it sit there for 8 to 10 mins

3rd spray the grill with the pressure hose this should get rid of all the paint flakes.

4th put a rag on the end off the screw driver to grab all those litt bits tat didnt come off between the vents...

repeat untill you are happpy with the end result...i will post pics when i can be botherd getn baterys for my digital camera.

Sounds like a nasty way of doing things...

For the rest of us with the cheaper plastic, I think you'll find its all black plastic all the way through...no chrome there

Why would you? Might as well pick up a real chrome one from the wreckers and save all that trouble. :P

You can't make them chrome. You will need to buy Berlina or Calais grilles.
Calais grilles are all chrome, Berlina grilles are black in the centre a with a chrome edge (same as the Calais with the centre painted black). Blwnvt removed the paint from the Berlina grille to reveal the chrome underneath. So the Executive and Acclaim grilles are not chrome painted black.

hey vt, vx ownes i'm new to vt having just bought a vt after my vp was stolen and torched all my hard work customising it gone, but i'm now starting to make my new car a one of. A cheap mod to the grill is to cut out the bits of the grill and put chrome mesh in it, or what i'm trying soon is putting a vy grill on my vt bumper

I wouldn't trust turps on the plastic/chrome, and doubt it will strip the paint. Septone automotive is the brand - $12 in a spray can at supercheap. You can also get it in a tin to be applied by brush, but I thought the spray would be easier. I sprayed, left 10 minutes, hosed off high pressure. Repeat, paying attention to areas with stubborn paint and hose off again. I used a wooden ice block stick as a scraper for stubborn areas.

Wow. That was lucky, I went out this morning to get some turps from S.C.A but opted for Septone. I'm gonna get started now
