Default Rear uni joint replacement

OK, so the VT has started a knock over the last week which I think is the rear uni, but ill suss it out tomoro anyway.

If I brake, then accelerate their will be a thumb at the diff, not anything drastic but enough to notice. Im pretty certain its the rear uni, but should I be checking anything else tomoro?

Also if it is the rear uni, I will replace both front and back, but how hard is this to do? do I need any specialist tools. and how much would I be looking at roughly for Australian or Japanese made uni's?

Not sure about the VT, but most uni's are fairly easy to replace. A hammer and a vice are all you really need. If you have never done one before it is a lot easier to watch it being done rather than trying to read instructions. The biggest thing you have to watch out for is picking up a needle as you push the cap into the yoke.

DIY: Replacing Universal Joints

Have a read of that, but steps 4 and 5 are harder when you do it that way. The easier way is to rest the uni joint on the jaws of the vice so that the cap that is in the tail shaft is facing up. Hit the tail shaft with a hammer next to the cap so that you are forcing the tail shaft down and the vice is pushing the uni joint and the cap up out of the tail shaft. Turn it over and do the same for the other cap.

This problem has been fixed.... The problem was quite embarrasing.... The other day I was driving, and im like hey mum that thumb is gone.... "Yeah I know, I cleaned the boot out and it stopped" It was something in the boot rolling or something, dont know what the hell was in their but could of sworn it was the uni lol.

Well....good to see it was a cheap fix then. Does mum want her own tech forum?
