Hey fella's i just bought a boat now i have to get a tow bar/ball. A mate told me that it is like 1600bucks cos the vt's dont have a rear chassis bar. Is this true?
If not can i just bolt it onto the metal bit thats under the rear bumper. I got no idea any help would be appreciated.
Cheers ben.

I can't really answer your question fully, but i think the Hayman Reece tow bar is what Holden use. You can get a 1200kg or a 2000kg. I think the 2 tonnes has extra reinforcement, such as where the spare tyre goes (you don't have to take out/ replace your spare tyre). the visual difference is the 2 tonne one has a square end and the 1.2 tonne has a flat, rectangular end.
Also, consider electric brakes, if your boat has them.
So could i bolt a towball on straight from a vn commodore.

Hey dude,
You can bolt a 2nd hand VT one straight on... remove the rear bumper, and there you will see a steel bumber looking thing with 2 large nuts securing it at either end.. this is where you bolt on ya new towbar... i brought mine 2nd hand of Trademe (NZ version of Ebay) for NZ70.00... came with the wiring loom etc and was pretty much brand new.... rated at 1600kg... i tow a 17'6 fibreglass with no probs... might wanna seriously think about adding a transmission oil cooler though to avoid overheating..
I purchased mine complete from the wreckers with new ball and loom for $90, 5 years ago. It bolts straight on as said by DarkCrystal. The towbar loom simply plugs into the main loom behind the drivers side tail light, the socket is already there from the factory.
1600 bucks!! LOL, yer mate is talkin' outa his bum! LOL
