Been tempted to do something similar. How much does it usually cost to purchase a supercharger with installation?
Also heard that turbos a slightly better than supers for fuel. Not sure how true that is.
to charge your car, put away $6000.
To turbo it will cost more.
Turbo is dont think would be as good on fuel as a charger

indead, but i was refering to his question about supercharging his current motor

and i was refering to your comment about requiring 6000 to supercharge his car

Where in Sydney can i get the Supercharging done!!
all the websites i can find are in other states
i think supers are better on the fuel in the same rev range before the turbo cuts in. you got turbo lag before then which means you need to accelerate harder to get the same performance as without a turbo. with a supercharger the power is already there from idle so you wont need to accelerate as hard. either way is going to use more fuel, but i reckon the turbo will use more as a daily being used in the low rev range as a result of turbo lag. thats my thoughts now everyone crap all over my thoery.
So the CAPA Kit, Raptor Super Charger, and Yella Terra Kit for the V6's are not legal ? I have a feeling the YT kit is street legal. The other 2, its the way it may be plumbed or something like this, how its vented etc. Also the change to the cone filter makes it illegal, but CAPA i think do a custom box for it to cover it, making it legal again.
In a nut shell if you run the Raptor kit in NSW.
First you need an emmisions test which should be fine. as the ECU remains (original casing at the very least). The Equivelent of a BOV (Bosch CBV) is plumbed back so no blead off to atmospheric. As long as your CATS are ok and your EGR valve is still setup to blead exhaust gasses back into the plenum you should have no issues with the readings which are CO not CO2.
Next Engineers certificate. The kit again is sturdy and should pass the requirements. Remember an Engineer will also check the decibel reading from the exhaust, in NSW this is 2/3 the max RPM no louder than 90db for the VX Commodores so ~4000rpm. They will also check wheels/tyres and the max diameter/width allowed on your vehicle.
If you check out the do's and don'ts prior to getting the tests you should be ok. Another rule of thumb is you always look better in the eyes of the RTA etc if the car is still registered (pink slip only required) as a lot of things will be overlooked than if you need to go a full Blue slip.
they might be engineered, but wont be EPA friendly. l67 is the only one where you wont have these troubles. YT kit is a ripoff for pretty much the same thing as a stock l67, without all the good engine internals. much cheaper to find a l67 engine
is the emissions test done by the EPA? they have a checklist when testing the car, it has supercharger, turbo, intercooler on it. they can also check the memcal inside the ECU. when i went for an EPA test, even with a stock motor, they knew that my memcal has a socket soldered onto it and that it was running a modified tune.

Yeah the emissions test is done by the EPA. I was informed the issue is not if it has a modified tune, the issue with the EPA is if it can be changed on the fly, i.e. if the tune can be changed while you are in the car and driving. That is why all aftermarket programmable ECU's are not EPA friendly. They still test to make sure your pollution readings out of the exhaust are within legal bounds.
Stocky when they knew you had a modified tune did they fail you? If so did they tell you what exactly they failed you on?
failed due to a slight misfire and non factory tune
