    Default rear speaker wires

Ok guys just a quick one before I pull the rear apart, VT that still has the original metal plates where the 6X9's should go, should there be wires there to connect the new speakers to or will I have to run my own? sounds kinda sad only having the front speakers and the little ones in the back doors!!

    Cheers in advance

    lumina was spot on.

the so-called covers should pop out. and the steel plate is pre-cut just soldered into the body so should be an easy screwdriver jemmy job to get them out.

You say you have steel covers? This I find strange as the standard VT comes with fabricated covers. Kinda like the one that covers the child restraint in the middle but bigger. The metal grills are an option

mine had to be cut?? you cant just pop them out because its part of the body of the car and its ment to be illegal to do it.

He shouldn't have to cut hole?. Pop a few in, Wire them up under the carpet or side trim.

When looking at my speakers they are not small, But the holes or fine, When doing a RWC i was told if the parcel shelf was cut for the speakers, I'd be failed.

As you guys have pointed out, the standard speaker set up is four 6 inch speakers, oner per door. The rear parcel shelf has provision for 6x9's which were fitted to the upmarket models (Calais. Statesman) and the holes in the parcel shelf are blanked off by steel plates which only have a couple of contact points holding them in. They are not structural - the design of the parcel shelf provides for the removal of the plates without affecting the integrity of the body shell and the plates can be safely and legally removed.

Unfortunately, whilst Holden provided the speaker holes, the wiring terminates at the back doo connector. To fit speakers into the rear shelf, you should disconnect the rear door speakers at the connection point under the scuff plate and extend them to the rear parcel shelf. I imagine a separate factory wiring harness might be available to do this professionally but don't know for sure.

Other guys who know much more about sound systems can comment on the output of the rear shelf speakers, but I know they will tell you to disconnect the rear door speakers if you want to put speakers in the rear shelf.
