Default Where to buy a tech 2?

I want to get hold of a tech 2 module for my vx v6, having some issues with it and i object to paying $85 for some 16 yr old to plug a computer into my car for 10 minutes and charge me for the privilege!

Can anyone offer me some advice?

For a diagnostic cable (off ebay - 'vt diagnostic ALDL...') it's about $100. If you could find somehwhere that sells a tec 2, i reckon you'd be looking at 100's of dollars. it wouldn't be worth it unless YOU were gunna start charging people $85 to do a diagnostic

Yeah a tech2 would be a wicked piece of equipment to own..

    BUT!

its in the same basket as:

    Hoists
    Dynos
    Wheel Alignment Machine

    etc.

The cobber has a hand held diagnostic computer that covers quite a few different makes, Holden is just one of them, looks similar to a Tech2. Cost him, so he says, $4000 and he has it upgraded regularly to cover the new models that come on the market.

No it won't. The handheld scanners work on a US standard that has not been adopted by Australian cars. The GENIII uses OBDII in almost everything (but not the error codes). The ecotech still uses OBDI.

If you are handy with a soldering iron you can make the adaptor yourself, I have posted plans on how to do this in the electrical section. I aslo make them but I am not here to push my wares.

snap-on tools do a code reader and flash tool that does everything the tech 2 does can reprogram for new keys and stuff was heaps cheaper than a tech 2 my mate got one a while ago cause he lost his keys and it was 450km tow to the nearest holden dealer so he just bought the snap-on tool instead.

That Tech2 would be a really handy tool to have, although I would hardly use it enough to justify the price.

yes a tech 1 was about 2 grand just for the unit let alone at least $500 a pop for the cartridge to go in it for the particular engine.
a tech 2 is a much better and much more expensive piece of equipment (about 8 grand) plus programs for each engine. i guess im just lucky that i know someone who happens to privately own both of them. he does justify the price though, servicing others cars and building his own. the tech 2 is a marvelous piece of equipment, showing reading from every sensor, and also being able to reset fault codes and display graphs of anything in real time. if only my cars plug wasnt broken and it gave power to the unit so i could use it on my car.
    Also
what about a 5 litre VR? what do they use?
you can do that engine with a Tech 1

but would they depreciate by much? Couldn't the guy in this 2 year old thread just sell it again when he doesn't want it any more?

American/Canadian Tech 2 $51 but I don't know if it works with Australian Commodores. Mentions Omegas in the ad. Ebay #390210163731.

Opel Vauxhall Scanner OBD2 OpelTech2 Tech'2 Multiplexer. So it is a GM tool

Most of the other scanners are very limited, the tech 2 would be nice to have, we have one at work hardly gets used, they are exspensive.

I bought one of these a few years ago and it is useless on a commodore, it doesn't read fault codes on a V6 or V8.
