my wife went to open the passenger door ,and something broke inside the door, and the door wont open, how hard is this to fix the handle still lifts up and down but does nothing

The handle itself has most likely broken, they are plastic and it is a common fault. You will need to replace the handle if it is broken. The door trim needs to be removed to access the handle.

If door still open from the inside, then you have brioken the exterior handle. The problem is well known and replacement door handles(in revised configuration) are available from holden dealers, and aftermarket.
Problem is that the part needs to be painted, they come in grey plastic colour unprimed.

Assuming you have the replacement colour coded part. The replacement does not take long. remove door trim, peal back plastic sheet at top left corner.
Removal and replacement is straight forward.

Time to complete job would be less than 1 hour including cleanup.
Consuming part is sourcing handle and getting item painted.
When I did mine i replaced all handles at once, got rid of all nail scratchs and lifting clear.

thanks for that seems like a easy job to do just got to get a new handle and paint

finally , got the guts to have a look today ,all came apart easy enought, look out for those hidden screws, lol. my mate had the same prob so last week he pulled his apart and it was theactuating rod had dislodged easy fix but mine the handle support has snapped so have to get new handle.there is a paint place here that puts paint in a spray can here so looks like i have a job on soon also those window winder handels i got one off but no go with the others using the rag method

If you remove the handle you might be able to find a way to modify it to keep it working. What colour is your car? Might be able to find someone wrecking one in the paper with a working handle in the right colour.

the colour is tundra perl' a gray colour the handle is stuffed no way to bodgie it to work
