Default VT Rear red board thingy!!!

    Hi Guys,

This is my first time on this site- Ive had my Vt for a couple of years and finally got around to putting black lED tail lights in yesterday- they look sick HOWEVER because VT's come with that stupid red board it looks out of place SO

    Should I:
    Buy a vx boot

    or

Tint spray the red part to match up with the tail lights.....
Ive heard people say that this looks crapo but Im thinking this is the best way to go....pictures anyone???

    Help?

    Elle

i think by the red thingy u mean the garnish? well you can buy a VX one from holden for about $150, get it sprayed and then its really easy to install. some people paint the VT one.
Up to you with mine i baught a new one and got it painted and hooked it one.

Yes, I mean garnish. Thanks, I think yours looks good but Im leaning towards tinting because I think it would really suit my car.
Dose anyone have tips for DIY tinting with nightshade?

    Pictures too!

Also I have another problem with my tail lights- everything works except my brake lights......the light in my spoiler dosent work and niether dose the middle window light.

Im really not that great with cars - Im a moto chick myself so any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

check fuses to see if you have blown one. then check the bulbs. common fault but sounds like a fuse. IMO the vt garnish can look very nice. better than LED fast and the furious ones

    Yeah Thanks,

I thought it might be a fuse, my fuse remover is missing so I can't pull them out

I read your post about removing the badges, did you use the same method on your garnish?

I will have to remove the commodore badge before tinting my VT garnish, I dont even know how to get the garnish off my car so I can do it properly.....?

yeh the debadge works on the garnish aswell.

To take the garnish off pop your boot open. You will see four screws in and around there. Also some plastic clips, just have a fiddle until it starts working lose and you feel if you have missed a bolt anywhere. Not hard mate just practice

The brake light in my rear windscreen has never worked cous the spoiler LED's are hooked up to where it was. Check that theres even a light in that one first.

As for the brake lights not working, I'd say you have a blown bulb on the drivers side or its not in correctly.

All mine worked when I hooked the lights up except the passanger reverse light. I ended up running another wire from the drivers side over to the pasengers side.

Also I painted my rear garnish black, the pics are in my profile album

Remember seeing that holden would fit a new light into the rear window for $11.50.

believe that holden will instal the entire thing for 11 bucks fifty. Just call them and ask as different holden dealers have diferent prices

Hey guys - turns out it was a fuse. Lights up like a christmas tree now! the spoiler light, middle window light and my new LED's

BUT before I get to excited the passenger side reverse light dosent work haha - just like yours ozzie,

Im thinking of using the nite shade stuff to tint it so you can still see a bit of the red showing through- I think it might look alright....if not I can always go buy a vx one or respray it right?

That could b coz ur spoiler came on the car from the factory, if u got a spoiler fitted later on that middle window light must b disconnected.

Y not save ur money and just spray the VT garnish? cost me $150 2 prep and paint, looks 10 times better than the VX 1 as the VT 1 has a better flow 2 it around the number plate 2 suit the VT/VX curves. the VX garnish IMO suits the VY/VZ models coz of its sharp edges.

If u want the VT 1 2 look like its always been like that preperation is the key as if u dont u can make them look pretty shockin in the final outcome.
