Hi, Just bought a vt series 1 7 seater wagon. Its in good cond for its age and have been driving it around all week without the slightest bit of trouble (apart from a few drops of oil, sounds common though) however driving around today, as we were pulling into ouur street, we hear a beep beep beep and the little screen thingy was flashing hot. But between the beginning of my street and my drive way the temp went back down to under half. when i got home i checked everything and it was all pretty normal, and both hoses (top n bottom radiater hoses) were at the same temp.
So i dont know what to think, has this ever happend to anyone else, is it common?
if the VT has a bleed screw on the top of the thermostat housing try bleeding the system of air. Could have been an air lock ? did the hoses have pressure in them.. keep an eye on it
air lock makes alot of sence, good thing is its stil under warranty so if it is major they will fix it, there wasnt a great deal of pressure in the hoses and by the looks of it, the coolant tank is full of water, im going to book the car in for a service on monday, get them to have a proper look than, just checked oil though and its gone down a fair bit and it looks like its comming from the sump plug (wich i checked and is tight) could that also not be helping.
Im an auto sparky and know absulutely nothing else to do with the engine :-)
could also be the thermostat sensor playing up.
might be a good idea to clean the connections
just had a mobile mechanic look at it, he said that it had an air bubble and had no coolant, only water.
Suppose thats what happens when you buy from small car dealerships, with a name like Casino Motors
LOL... thats the dodgiest sounding place ever, but i can relate to it, the second last car i bought was from this dodgy car yard in a back street of a small town with red dirt and a bit of grass(where the "good" cars parked) for the yard.
Nice easy fix for ya so hope all goes well from now on.
ok defenetly not out of the woods yet, just had a very interesting phone call from our local holden place.
Bad things:
Water Pump F*cked,
Major Oil leek
Clogged Injectors
Both Rear Shockies leaking (need replacing)
Dirty Diff Fluid
Dirty Brake Fluid
Rust & Grime in Radiater (looks like its been filled with bore water)
Damaged front suspension (appears to have hit an imbankment)
Air Bag Sensor
Good things:
Gear box is in good condition.
And the stranest thing happend when i rang the dealer (Casino Motors) His phone magicly stopped working and now keeps ringing out.
oh and it also needs a new throttle body, and sway bar bushes thingo is also F*cked
go to that jack ass and say he better sought something out and if he refuses mention consumer affairs thats how i got my free phone![]()
I've driven fast cars I've done stupid shit in them each time i seem to come out on top i love you guardian angel
vp ss 3 months to go
kinda sounds like it has been in a crash or as you mentioned a embankment and they did a quick fix and flogged it off fast and your the poor sucker that got lured id be going back to casino motors and smacking him out with the user manual lol
This is my thoughts on what they've told you (especially since its a dealer)
The only things there that i would say need doing now or very soon is the front suspension and the water pump, even the water pump you could do yourself.
The majority of that list you can do yourself in you own time for minimal cost as opposed to paying them hundreds of dollars in labour plus parts to fix everything there and then in one go(i assume their quote will go well over a $1000). To be honest i think they have just looked really hard for anything and everything they can do and charge you for to keep their machanics busy and the cash flowing for the dealer.
I would definatly be hitting up old casino motors for the rent though, thats terrible practice to sell a car in such a mechanically run down state, and if you can get casino to pay for everything on that list then i would be getting it all done at the dealer then, even if its not all esential. The big ones i would really chase them for and you could easily legally do so is the oil leak and all the suspension stuff plus the water pump if its leaking and shagged.

just got car back drom service, had the water pump done and the radiator flushed while it was in there.
aparently its the valley cover gasket ( only remember the words valley and gasket ) if that makes any sence,
also the idler bearing is noisy.
holden quoted $550 for the gasket coz the car will mainly be used on long trips, the oil leak is something i just wanna get sorted now, the rest can wait a bit
LOL, Casino Motors...
I wish you good luck bloke.
