    Default Automatic headlights

Few questions, The VT calais has auto lights. My VTII Berlina has something similar but you can't have them come on and off in different light automatically. They work different, However they can pop on and off.
With the Calais and auto lights, Is there something else added to that model that makes it different. If i walk out in the day time, Open my car - but have left my lights on last night, They will not turn on in the day when i open it - as they do at night, So there I'm thinking there is something telling the car it's daylight no need to come on. But when i start it they turn on.

So I'm thinking if i had the auto light switch, Might it just work?. Considering there must be some type of sensor in it somewhere already?.

    So what do you think?.

You can't even turn them off.

Funny thing happen to me today when the light was going, I had the car in the gate with the gates open no lights. Then when i closed the gates and the sun was off the car, Lights come on?.. It's very nutty. I know of the approach lamps and delayed lights when leaving. But this one is weird.
I don't want to ask holden. They told me i need a VZ to fit VZ door a/c vents.

    Hello Slick Holden

Not sure if this helps, but ill tell you my experiences with the Auto Headlamps

I have a series 1 VT Berlina, and I was after the Auto Headlamps, Remote approach lighting, delayed lights off, and remote deadlock
after a little research I found out i required a HIGH lvl BCM from a Series 2 VT

I picked up a Calais Series 2 BCM and had it fitted at our local Holden place.
They seemed to think it wouldnt work, and it would be too hard, and bla bla bla
anyway, i told them to humor me
and without trouble they had it in and working, Remote deadlock solved
then i purchased a auto headlamp switch, ran the extra wire to the BCM
and I now have the Auto headlamp system working.

I dont know what a S2 Berlina is fitted with standard, but i do know any Berlina or above has the twilight sentinel (light sensor) because the climate control uses this as well.
it wasnt until the series 2 VY before it was standard on all models.

So i guess you could try putting in a Auto switch, and find out if your BCM is capable of doing auto headlamps. but then by what your saying, it sounds like its doing it on its own...

    Cheers
    Craig

the light sensor is in the middle of your dash, inbetween the demist vents right near the window. the climate control sensor is the 2 little holes to the left of the steering wheel.

That sensor you mention is the Cabin air temperature sensor.
The one inbetween the windscreen defrost vents is the twilight sentinel (light sensor) it is also the central locking sensor (the thing that works with your keys)

"XTR3" Thanks for all that, If she doesn't work I'll give that a go thank you..

No sensor on the dash, But i have changed my dash top after the accident, And to be honest i don't know if one was there. But at a guess it wasn't, Holden told me the dash top was the same for all models. IF only i had pics of it when i first got it.

But out of curiosity, Shouldn't i have a high level bcm same as calais ?.
I did read somewhere it's in the computer they say the auto headlights?.

Well today i went out and got myself the Auto headlight switch. Right off the bat it didn't work.
But at first it was looking good. I turned the car on all lights worked fine. Switched it to auto and lights went off. I drove around looking for a tunnel or underground carpark to zip under - And they didn't light up.
So that has been put to bed dead.

I'll need to do what xtr3 done and change bcm's. The defiantly is sometype of sensor there somewhere. Shouldn't be hard i spotted a 2 statesman's at deer park wreckers today.

theres 2 ways to do it either new bcm and the sensor on dash in the midle of the screen part of the keyless system or places like autobarn have a kit for about 20 all u do is hook up ign wire earth and the output (earth) to the auto light switch got it on my series one vt berlina it works just as good as the factory one but cheaper

i think you find that the two little holes on the left of the steering wheel is actually a speeker for when the car makes a beeping sound eg when your over speed or low on fuel...

umm no they arent, they are for fitting the steering wheel controls lol.
if fitted, your light sensor is positioned next to your remote control receiver your berlina should have an auto lights switch.

If you're handy with a soldering iron and you have nothing to do on the weekend, why don't you try to make an automatic headlights circuit yourself? I found this online and it's going in my VT berlina this weekend Automatic Light-Sensitive Headlights « Schematic-Diagrams.com

    nice grave dig up

it's doable on a MID BCM

im working on it on my vx with a mid bcm it's all there minus a relay which can be wired in easily to work with the interior lights on with the headlights

Do you mean when the interior lights are on the light from that doesn't trick the headlights into turning off in the middle of the night? Scenario: Parked on the side of the road at night looking at a map with the interior light on, sensor detects light and headlights turn off.

That circuit I linked to allows for that by forcing it to be light for about 30 solid seconds before the lights turn off.

I was thinking of stealing a BCM, but it's so much more fun to make it yourself

both if you have a MID BCM all you need to do is change the remote receiver to a calais' one they are different and change the headlight switch to an auto one and it should work

i'm chasing up parts and will do a write up on it

I had a VTII Berlina and don't remember it having auto lights. My VY SS did and from memory they were hit/miss in the "auto off" feature. VE auto lights are flawless - never had an issue over 3 cars. It's bad when I drive other cars though as I have a bad habit of leaving the lights on after it's parked and I have left. Still getting used to the auto wipers on the new one. Hate the park assist - have to figure out how to get it turned off by default.
