hey guys
having a problem with my VXII SS (auto).. sometimes when I slow down to stop at the traffic lights a feel a small clunk. same thing occasionally happens when taking off.. but not as often.
Im not very mechanically minded so im unsure what this could be but it makes sense that its something to do with the gearbox/clutch? any feedback would be appreciated.. thanks!
could be the rubber cupling between gearbox and front of driveshaft .I had similar problem with my vt not sure if VX has the same setup.
heres a pic of what i'm talking about.

most likely back lash in the diff
it is a common problem

if it is back lash how do i fix it?
rebuild time

I had the same back lash issue in my VX SS, also had the diff chatter issue at low speed in tight turns in carparks.
I had Holden change the oil and put their additive in and at the same time change the pinion seal as I had read a tech bulletin that the original seal was not compatible with the new additive, I asked the mechanic how they changed the seal and he said they mark the position of the pinion before removing it to fit the seal and then when refitting give it a fraction extra tension. So I gather that alters the preload on the pinion a tad.
My diff is absolutely silent now, no clunks at all not the slightest hint of noise.
Before doing this mine was like yours clunked just as you came to a stop, and a bit of a clunk as you took off...........beautiful now.
The mechanic said there was also a software update from Holden for the VX that softened the change into 1st as the car came to a stop which helped the clunk as it came to a stop.
