Soooooo i decided it was time to make my stock vt s pack sound a little better today.
me and a mate went to a couple of exhaust places to check out there various prices and what not. without naming names one place we went to the guy said he would put a redback cat back exhaust onto my car...to which i was happy as a hear alot of talk about the redback systems. however he said that most of his customers walk out with just the standard system and come back minutes later only to ask if they could have a hotdog put on also to dumb the sound a down a bit....
another place we went the guy offered to put just the redback system on without the hotdog?
now im stuckk as to what to do....theres a price difference (obvisously) but i dont no which place to go to?
anyone got any comments and/or sound clips of there redback exhausts with and without a hotdog? and any suggestions as to what i should do?
Redback is maybe the best overall name when you think exhaust for Holden's. But i would say they are not the best, Just very competitive price quality and they will always have stock.
Personally lukey exhaust might have the best sound for a Ecotec engine but might be at a larger price, Also X-Force have come good of late and offer many good systems now.
Adding a hotdog does many things. It can quieten down the car, Give it a more raw sound or deeper note as there are many sizes to choice from. More it keeps it closer to legit with 2 mufflers.
Also have a look in here, There are many exhaust system to listen to.

1) decide whether you want it to be quiet, sporty, loud, really loud
2) decide how much you want to spend
3) ask at least four places
I had a 2.5" cat-back system on my VP with only one muffler, by SuperCat, and I absolutely loved it. It was what I'd call 'loud' though. With two mufflers, you'll get a sporty sound from Redback, but it won't be garishly loud. And with two mufflers and a hotdog, it'll be quiet![]()

The redback systems are good to work with.
I fitted one to a VS the other month and it sounded quite good.
Your question is easy to answer, get the off the shelf single muffler redback system fitted, if it's too loud, roll it back and get a second muffler put in.
Hope this helps

mmmmm thanks guys helps heaps...keep the suggestions coming or if anyone can recommend an exhaust place to go to. i checked out dandy exhaust, daalder exhaust, hillside exhaust in ferntree gully and waverley exhaust. anyone got any others?
mate i went to Mr. Muffler and their price was the best for the redback system. They quoted $500 installed (twin system)! everyone else qouted $600 plus.. check them out. good luck!
You should have come to Tidd brothers not far away.

for the sake of it id recommend not getting a hot dog, if u like it leave it, if u dont then get one put on. For $60 or something its no great loss.
Also i cant recommend Pakenham Exhaust and Brakes in Pakenham (20min past dandenong) Iv been in there a few times recently with mates and OMG the sound of the systems they do is amazing, One was on a vt commodore (he did a 2 1/4 system with pacies, fark it sounded good) and the other was an lx hatch with a twin system. The workmanship was excellent too.
I got mine done at Nar Nar Goon Exhaust, the note was good but the workmanship not so good, I ended up redoing the welds myself as there was a leak.
mmmmm thats what i wanted to hear...i did end up going to daalder exhuast in dandy and they recommmened the red back with a hotdog for 437....i then went to waverley exhaust along blackburn road in knotting hill and they said they do redback with no hot dog for 350......
87 bucks for a hotdog...........
