i was at the sydney moto show the other week and saw this munched vt i took some pics because i thought that some of you might find this interesting. the rta did a test on vt's and crashed one at 60 km/h and the other at 100 km/h i've only got pics of one car and that was the one that crashed into the wall at 100 km/h.
Good lord! the ass end flew off it aswell?!

the front kinda looks like a VN/VP with a VT onwards body kit
where did the engine end up?
Hmmm.... Just looking at it, a driver and passenger wouldn't be all that healthy but the cabin did remain remarkably in tact.

the rearend was cut off so it could be on display at the moto show.
hahah it looks like a pug

the cabin is in decent condition still which is encouraging. Although the force of impact would do wonders to you insides regaurdless of how well the cabin holds its shape
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
Didnt come off to bad really. The cabin is in great condition and the driver is well protected. BUT at that impact I doubt many people would be surviving or in good shape. But atleast they wont be mangled and trapped. Though this is only on a dead straight impact, how many people hit a wall head on?
it will buff out

i guess the RTA doesnt like v6's. i would call it an improvement over the factory look though

The engine more or less submarined under the car breaking the bell housing/input of the gear box, rear cross member and tail shaft. Can't remember what happened to the K frame - I think it came back with the motor but not 100% on that one. Inside the cabin was virtually in tact except being an inch or so shorter where the roof buckled. I was lucky that my head didn't hit the steering wheel or anything.

At least with the cabin in reasonable shape, it would give the ambo's a bit more room to work in extracting the remains of the occupants, I would say, broken hips, leg thigh bones protruding out through the flesh, smashed collar bone, thumbs torn out of there sockets, not to mention smashed ribs and deep bruising from the seat belts. Though, I suppose what would 'put the nail in the coffin' would be the internal bleeding from the crushed organs!
Yep, I recon the cabin being in 'good shape' IS a bonus!

reaper right the engine didn't go into the cabin it sortof went virtical and under the car.
i didn't mean literally, it's just that there would be a lot off mass sitting where the occupants legs use to be. i guess you were very lucky to walk away. normally the footwell area is crushed. i have seen a similar wreck with a VP where the 2 piece shaft poped up though the floor at the CV

Mine wasn't in a VT either. I'd think the condition of the foot well would largely depend on how square on the hit is. Anything off center could skew the motor at funny angles. For sure I was very lucky - it's not something I ever want to repeat again. Generally in a larger car though, you have much more chance of survival by the shear bulk and size of the cabin.

This is a bit off topic but did anyone see the pics in the adelaide advertiser yesterday of a ferrari that hit a stobie pole at about 150 klms. It hit it dead smack in the middle of the front and sliced it into the cabin. The stobie pole finished where the gear shifter is. If anyone has those pics post them up cause they look funny. By the way the 2 guys in it survived.
