Ok, so i have a 2001 vx series 2, and i have just changed the headlights to the vz monaro headlights, i havent put the bumper on yet or the fog lights or anything and so all i have changed is the headlights so far..
Now for the headlights, the plug that went into my vx headlights had 6 metal things which to plug into the headlights, and my vz monaro headlights only have 4 metal things... but the plug is the same size and it fits correctly, headlights work and everything...
Now when i turn the car on, it comes up with Service Error, and then it beeps and then all the lights come on the dash, like the abs, oil, almost everything comes on...
What could this be? and how could i fix it? do i need a different plug for the vz monaro headlights?
best place this in either the VX or VZ section where more poeple familiar with those models will see it

Can you post a pic of these "metal" things to give us an idea of what your talking about
These are the metal things i was talking about, it doesnt look exactly like this, but im just showing you wat i meant about the metal prongs..
how about a photo of the 2 different plugs + metal things?
lol i would but they are already on the car.. ill try draw them for you...
And the plug to which those 2 plugs go into has 6 holes... this is what i dont know if i have to change it, as the vz monaro headlights have only 4 metal pronges but the shape of the plugs are both the same..
do you have access to a multimeter? if so. see if it makes a circuit across extra pins in the VX headlights (i assume you still have the lights that came out)
there must be some sort of circuit that goes through the VX headlight that the VZ doesn't have. you say all the lights work as per normal on the VZ lights? (maybe some sort of sensor) maybe voltage detection of some sort.
maybe if you remove the extra pins from the plugs and short em out and then see what happens? i however wouldn't do that untill you test the old headlights and see what sort of circuit it makes.
this is a good question for Dr Bob. maybe PM him or post the question in his dedicated thread

i have a vx seris 2 clubby..(same as your car and lights plug)
i fitted VY maloo/hsv/calais lights straight in.....plugged in worked correct.
if vt/vx can take a vy no problems (apart from obviously i changed the entire front of car) I MEANT WIRING HARNESS PROBLEMS, then i am sure a VY to VZ swap cant be so hard??
i think it maybe to do with the monaro vz parklights (not on base models) so u will have to run a cable from headlight pin..(use test light to find)..run to park lights/foggies whatever.
i just read your post again ..(4 pins and 6 pins).. the extra 2 pins in vx/vy and maybe even vbase vx? will be for park lights in the headlights., i pretty sure hign spec vz models (ur new monaro lights) have external parklights/foggies? so the 2 pins on your CAR wiring harness that plug into empty holes in new HEADLIGHT plug will go to other lights.
either way a test light (simple head light globe will do) will assist u.......
didn't i say that i previous post??
i still thinking about how or why though a vz monaro has park lights that are in bumper? i mean the foggies are there..so where are the park lights supposed to go? wouldnt this mean 4 lights in front???
**goes for late night drive to holden joint up the road to see**
"honestly officer i was only lying under this nice vz gto to assist some bloke i never me on a internet site with his wiring..."
i get it now....
park lights are inside the normal vt,vx and base vy headlights. vy ss has those little circles that come from bottom of headlight into bumper..(my confusion was based on my thought that they are useless anyway. they called PARK lights cos in some countries people park cars and leave them on to warn other cars not to drive into them??!!
and obviously the monaro does not have these inside the headlight? but looking at cars and pics makes me wonder where they are?
i have found some vz monaro pics with 2 foggies in front bar, and a couple (like cv8r bumpers) having 2 on each side?
now i am really curious???
Yes you did...
I was more pointing out that the error(Service Error, and then it beeps and then all the lights come on the dash, like the abs, oil, almost everything comes on...)
seems a bit much for just a failed park light, which is what I would think the bcm would be reading...
The parkers are in the foglights, thats why there is 2 on each side, 1 for fog lights, 1 for parker lights.
I dont really need anymore help on this as i have already put the bumper and lights in, i am now selling my car though, so if anyone wants a nice clean vx with only 115,000km then let me know.
bro your service error dosent hav anthing too do with your light
i hav a vy monaro 5.7 litre with service error as well i am a mechanic and i hav sacned mine with a fault code was a seriel link that i think has too do with the dash
