    Default VX key problem

I have a problem with my VX commordore where i put the key into the barrel but it will not turn and so therfore i cannot start the car. Had to get the RACV to start it. They seemed to say i may need a new barrel or mech.

Can anyy one give me any idea what might be wrong with it and a idea of who can fix it, ie can my local mech fix it or do i need to go to a dealer? any idea on price also ?

the pins inside the barrel may be worn.

you can try lubing inside the barrel to see if that helps

probably pins worn out etc. Do you have more than one key. I recently got a new key made for my vx and great trouble turning the barrel. Got the old key put into the new remote unit and it works a lot more freely, the locksmiths were adamant that the key had been cut to the correct specs and that it was a problem with wear inside the lock( I did explain to them that I wanted a copy of the key I had.......not what of what it may have used to be like!!!!)

You should use graphite powder for locks - although it's a bit messy and hard to get in. RP7 and similar products attract dust.
