have just put new rotors and pads on the front of my ss and just
before i let her down i turned the wheel by hand an could hear
the pads catching on one small part of the rotor
Q: is there a right and wrong to do this or is something else wrong
as i have never had this happen befor
What if you drive the car?
But when I first put my pads on they were squeaky, for about 100km, then they went fine...
Its possible that the clips arent in correctly and are touching the rotors.
make sure the clips are all the way in touching the calipers
alignment of your brakes is crucial to prevent excessive brake pad wear, but if the clips arent all the way in like ozzie says that will cause problems, make sure your calipers are fully reset before continuing and road testing the vehicle if not you not installed the rotor properly try putting your wheel nuts on and making the rotor square it should work and then not catch.
then after what you need to do is road test the car, for the first 200 to 2000 k's they may sqweal... but once you have warn them in you should be right

Have a look at the backing plate to see of it is touching the disc
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
have checked the backing plate to see of it is touching the disc an is not,
have road tested the car and then checked again, brake pad is still touching the rotor very lightly in about a 2cm section of the rotor the rest of the rotor doe's not come in contact
also how do i get a rotor of that dont want to come of so i can do the other side

Some discs have two holes in them that you can screw bolts in to and the disc will just pop off . If not then give the hub a good clean with a wire brush , sprat it with WD40 or use a big hammer and a block of wood and bash it off . Rotate the disc after every couple of hits . Also use chassis stands , not just the jack .
