VX SS dash compartment removal?

I need to remove the small compartment that is under the radio in my VX SS, the spring loaded lid will not stay closed. Does this compartment just pop out some how or do you have to remove the radio console ?? The lid should push to close, push to open but it now only stays open !!

Sounds like the clip that keeps it closed has broken .I think everyone that owns a VX has had to replace it at some time . They are only a couple of bucks from Holden .

i think they retail at about 10 bucks from holden.

pop up the shifter surrounding at teh rear where the centre console is, under the small compartment is 2 screws, undo them, pop the surround up then the little compartment should just drop down

I went to my local Holden dealer today and bought the latch, $17.60 and I am in northern NSW. Maybe cheaper in the city. Have a look at my album for a photo of the latch. I also use these in stereo and CD cabinets and I buy those for $0.95 cents each. They are a tad bigger than the Holden one, bummer.
