Default MCAI on VT Ecotec 3.8L

I want to put a cold air intake on to my VT 3.8 V6 ecotec.

Does the MCAI work? Is this an OTRCAI.

    Am I getting this right..
The default OTR induction I have now stays, it's just the air box that ahs a second hole with another opening around the headlight..?

I've read alot about SS "reductions" and told to steer clear, glad I didn't fork out the $550.

The MCAI (Monaro Cold Air Intake) is from an LS1 Monaro so no it would not fit on a Vt 6.. however the same principle can be used. As you mentioned you can cut a 2nd hole in the airbox and get some piping that leads to behind the headlight/bumper or down towards the ground.

Ah cheers tony. So all I would do, is make a 2nd hole, then some pipe running out of that second hole to say, behind the headlight?

Would the second opening just be a circle then (as in the end of the pipe) just sitting there out in the open?

Hope that makes sense... will this make the induction noise louder aswell?

Now if someone was able to make a manifold with front mounted throttle body for the ecotec V6. They would be rich.

pretty sure all vt/vx have one standard, albeit small. still, it's better than nothing

003KWK: I haven't done it myself but from what I've seen thats pretty much it, I think most people have the pipe going down from the side of the box. I believe Yella Terra sell one but its like over $100 for a piece of pipe and a clamp, you could do it yourself much cheaper. There should be a DIY about it somewhere on here, just do a search. It would make the induction noise louder. Just found this thread which has pics: Yella Terra Cai

And_ROOS: Yeah VT/VXs have it standard but its pretty small, I believe that the CAI off the XU6s were SLIGHTLY bigger but nothing worth writing home about.

Yes a DIY sticky for CAI would be welcomed.

some may be, but the ones that are almost identical and serve the same purpose as the diy ones are not.

And_ROOS: Yeah that's true. The stock CAIs on VT-VYs are quite good for a stock item but you can always go more (damn human nature!) In regards to the SS Inductions kits, do are good, but considering how much you are paying and how much benefit you will see (it's only a family car V6 remember) you have to weigh up either its worth it.

666VT: Might just be me but the pics in that thread don't come up??
