    Default Lost power ??

    Hi just joined,first post.

I've got a 99 vt v6 sedan,K&N panel filter and 2 1/2 inch cat back exhaust ( no resonator).Lately it feels like its lost power, could this just be because its going on 10 years old and I probably treat it like a V8 supercar at times,or could it need some sort of rebuild of some description.
Not wanting to spend massive amounts on power output as it's the family car but some would be nice.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated,
    Cheers.

Do you flog the absolute crap out of it (even at times)? if its starting to wear then modding it wont be any good, a rebuild then some mods might be on the cards.

A rebuild which consists of rings, bearings and a hone will set you back about 3 grand drive in, drive out price.

Is it even worth spending $3k on a flogged VT exec?

I stand by my SOP for rejuvinating VTs:
    - give it a service - 20W50 oil + air filter + fuel filter if due (~$50)
    - clean the MAF + TB ($5, if you don't already have TB cleaner)
    - run a few tanks for premium through it (an extra couple of $ on whatever your fuel bill already is)
    - replace the O2 sensors. (~$100-150)

And the end result on all 4 I've done it on is about a 2-3L reduction in fuel consumption, an a totally different feeling car on the road. The engine becomes much more responsive.

    All for under $200.

    is it blowing smoke?
might also be that theres no compression in the tranny if it hasnt been serviced. check for trans leaks and take it to be vacumn tested

ah ok well car still goes fine etc but just this whistle noise lol is annoying. Hope its not the inlet manifold gasket as the car has only 81 000 on the clock. might make sure all the bolts are torqued down right
