    Default Starter motor?

    Hey guys,

My car has been having a little trouble starting, it normally starts first go but just latley its been struggling to kick over....it still makes the usual starting noises but dosent quite kick over...

It starts probably the second or third atempt with a bit of gas....its fine after that.
A mate of mine heard it and said my starter motor is on the way out...?

Got it booked into the auto elec- friday

    Thoughts anyone?

First thing I would be looking at is the battery, then the cable connections.

    hey mate
i had the same prob with my car. turned out to be the battery terminals loose. That was fixed and now its starts just like it used to. I went to an auto electric and they said that it was the starter motor blah blah blah. Lucky i got a second opinion. Bastards....
    Good luck with yours anyway

    thanks guys!
I think theres a good possiblitly it could be the battery connections....had to shift the battery around to get the new headlights in...maybe when I was moving it around it came loose?
I ll have a look might not have to pay out more money for nothing!!

My wagon was doing a similar thing, took it to the auto elecs and he tested the battery, which for a 3 yo unit was down a little but he said it was the starter motor on the way out. That was about 2 months ago and it is still starting, I think get a second opinion.

The VS and VT had a problem with the main wire going to the starter. Check the nut that holds it on, make sure it is tight, also check the solenoid cap on the starter to see if it is loose.

Or you could just have a battery that is on it's way out. Oh, also check the yellow wire coming off the back of the alternator. See if it looks a bit burnt or melted. That will reduce the charge going into the battery so it would turn over slowly.

I would be checking the connections underneath on the actual starter!
