    Default vx ss

Hey guys im looking at buying a vx ss early next year when i start 2nd year of my apprenticeship. Red book says they are priced at $10,700 - $12,400. Is this about right? What are some common problems that i should be looking for when buying one? Here is the redbook link of ss im thinking of. http://www.redbook.com.au/used-cars/...65004&trecs=35 I may also be looking at VT ss 5.7L Which is bit cheaper. Is there much differance?

2001 Holden Commodore VX SS II Yellow 4sp A Sedan - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 13-Dec-08 15:35:57 AEDST)

just pay another 150 on top of that and fark them tail lights off haha

yeah ive seen a few go for around that price.. however there is still some going for 14 - 16k

i'd go for the vx over the vt if you have the money mate, i may be wrong but they have better suspension and nearly everything on vx's would be updated.

even try to get a series 2 vx if you can, the newer the better mate.

i paid 15 for mine earlier this year in an auto and i thought that was cheap. With the price of fuel coming down these might go up slightly however it is getting increasingly hard to get finance now.

I had one from new for around 65,000 km and found it to be an excellent car. Get a series II if possible. It has an extra link in the rear suspension. It's not a total fix but makes it somewhat better. I didn't have any other issues with it. Piston slap was an issue with some cars but that was fixed under warranty for nearly all. (Neither of my ls1's had that issue)

Wow they've dropped down in value.

I bought my previous one for $21,000 in june 07. Sold it for $14,500 in July 08 (only adding 6,000km). Now they're worth $12,000?

Gotta love the big car market at the moment.

Yeah im currently looking at VX Clubbies and most of them are around the 14-18 mark. Getting pretty cheap out there. Its funny, i was gonna buy a VS Clubby, most of them are still selling for 11-14, give it another 6 months and the market will be flooded. GE have already pulled out of car finance, with people getting spooked, its a buyers paradise.

Yes there are manuals but they are rarer and will be a bit dearer than the autos.

If you buy it from a car yard, contact the original owners to see if it is OK, the car yards will not tell you. They have to tell you who the owner was, if not look in the log book for name and address. If private sale, take your time and look it over carefully. Listen for diff noise. make sure all the switches work and air-con. Look at tire wear, check colour of oil in engine and transmission. I bought a series II VX SS Auto Ex-Chaser 18 months ago and paid $16,000. It has a slight diff noise and I am getting that fixed, but I am very happy with the car. Have a look at my Albums

I was just driving past a car yard thismorning and seen a nice vx ss there, so i pulled over to have a look. Like always a car yard saleman walks straight over and asked if im looking to upgrade my vn, i said yeah i wana add another couple cylinders, So we walked over to the vx ss and of course it had to be auto. Her said, if this car was manual i would have sold it 100 times by now. A lot of people must be after vx manuals.

vxss manuals are a lot more expensive ure looking at 14500 to 19000 depends on k's and cond really i got my auto with a sunroof with 120k for 13500. i would prolly steer clear of the ex cop ones my brothers mates brother was a cop and he said he used to hit the limiter in first gear everytime they drove them and all the guys used to do it

Hey guys. I created this thread at end of last year, so it has been some time, but i have finally got the finance and have found a silver vx ss series2 6sp.

I took it for a half hour drive last weekend, and it felt really good to drive (but then anything would after my vn) I had a look over the car, and all seemed fine, but im no mechanic or anything so wondering if there are any companies that would check the car over on a sunday. was thinking maybe nrma could drive over to check it out or something? not sure i have never bought a car that costs this much so bit worried at what could go wrong.

I am going to pick the car up on sunday but would like a machanic to look over it before i hand over the cash. Just wasnt sure how to go about it on a sunday (its the only day i have off to get it) The car has 180 000kms, which i thought was little high, but it still drives well with no noises.

I was just told by someone to be wary of the 5.7ltr because apparently a hairline crack can form near the alternator in the cylinder which causes the car to use oil and stuffs the engine. Is there any truth in this?
