G'day,
Does anyone know if the front seat cussions are swappable (is that a word) between left and right?
The reason I ask is because the drivers side has done 170,000kms where as the passengers side has done about 30,000kms... it's a lonely life on the road, I know... so rather than try and find some expensive new cussions, I figure a L<>R swap is in order.
Anyone got access to Holdens parts list, are the part numbers the same for left and right cussions?
No they arn't swapable because the seat controls will be on the wrong side up against the center console.
I don't intend on swapping the seat frames, just the cussion... the foam and cover.
I've done the same thing with early Fords, of course they were a bit more straight forward and much less complicated in design (not particularly strong though).
PS my seats don't have airbags.
I would love an answer to this question as well.
My drivers seat cushion has done the VT thing and collapsed on the door side.
apparently its possible because the bottom of the seat is the same but don't quote me on it because VT commodores have Pre tentioners

Does anyone have a picture of this? People keep saying it, it hasnt happened to my car yet (knock on wood) but i cant really get a good mental image of half a cushion collapsing.
not so much half, but the edge bolster that gets all the extra traffic as you swivel your bum in and out of the car... some people will cause more wear because of their "getting in/out" technique, genetic size, and others because of the fast food and beer they consume.
(Todays tip for youngsters is: buy your secondhand cars from skinny people.)
yeah, its happened to my car, the whole cushoin has collapsed on driver side after the plastic has snapped off and the cushion has been cut in half because of the metal underneath but the outside still holds it together though, its such a b**** of a thing
I think it is possible to swap the seats over, but you will have a couple of issues to think about.
The seat base comprises the upholstery cover, the foam and the steel seat base. The upholstery is glued to the foam, and the whole lot is glued to the base.
I think the base is drilled on both sides for the mounting holes for the reclining mechanism, but only one side of each base has the captive nuts welded to the base for the recliner to bolt to. If I am right, you would have to either pull the upholstery off each base very carefully to avoid damaging the foam, then reglue to the opposite seat, or swap both bases over and modify them to bolt the recliners back on.
If you decide to just swap over the cushions, instead of the whole base, the upholstery will be perforated for the recliner mechanism on the wrong side of the seats. You can punch new holes for the recliner winder shaft, but the old holes will be visible on the insides of the seats after they have been swapped over.
