Hey guys,
I feel like a complete noob, but my vt won't re-start after its been warmed up. It turns over no worries, it just wont fire. Left for a couple of hours and it will start again. I dont know whether i should be replacing the coilpacks or what to be looking at.
All help is much appreciated.
might be the crank angle sensor....its common on vt's.............when you do start it from cold does it cut out when hot?
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]a 10 sec pass is only a sniff of gas away
My money is on the CAS as well.
pressure regulator? Once the engine is hot and the regulator isn't working properly, fuel is evaporated from the fuel lines dues to the heat and the regulator doesn't top it back up, causing a hard start on hot, but possibly also on cold like mine...
I am going to change my fuel pressure regulator soon coz i got a hard start, checked everything and can't seem to put my finger on it. I'm hoping this is it!
But yeah, possibly fuel pressure regulator, that's my ywo cents.
me too CAS.......hot its probably the crank angle sensor, first thing to look for with no spark.
about $70 and 1/2 hour of time
remove the belt, 3 arm puller remove balance wheel, replace cas, put balancer back on, put back belt, done, start driving. 3 arm puller, you need more instruction on if not pulled one before.
probably find the car goes a lot better than it has for a while. before they go they seem to effect the timing and power. sometimes for months before they give up. sometimes they cut out randomly and restart later, when cooler. but gets worse and worse. sometimes they just stop.
tech 2 would pick up the error code to confirm. but i would just do it.

Doing the quick "lead off sparkplug and crank it" check will narrow down the possibilities real fast, it will confirm whether there is spark or not... got spark, look at the fuel system... no spark, check out the ignition system.
Beats swapping out a good part just to find out it wasn't the cause of your problem.
The real way to avoid getting wrong parts is to get the DTC codes read. that will tell you what sensors are faulty. This really saves time and money especially if you have a reader yourself.
If that comes up with none, then it can be things non sensor related. pump etc.
the symptoms sound very much like the crank angle sensor. although fuel pumps can do a similar thing, not as common as it pointing to the crank angle however..
can we take bets on it?
report back your solution so the loosers can pay up.
hey its deffinately the crank angle sensor. just got mine fixed last week. mine was doing the same thing aswell
My money is on crank angle sensor
warm car up, then turn it off, if it doesnt start pour some cold water around CAS then see if it starts
or when car is cold use a heat gun (or the wife's hairdryer) to heat up CAS and see if it starts
CAS will not always log a code
Hey guys, thanks for the help. It was the CAS. The rattle gun wouldn't get the balance wheel and i didn't have a breaker bar to do the old 'put the bar on the chassis and crank the motor' trick so i took it down to the local mechanic, charged $120 supplied and fitted...
Annoying, knowing that i could have done it myself and had to pay someone, but its all done.
