dirty water

i just changed the coolant in the radiator ,it was very old by the look of it i flushed the rad ,motor, over flow botle, ect, put on new cap ,checked the water today and there is brown sludge on cap do ineed to flush it again

there are some good products to remove all the sludge from a severly dirty cooling system ive used them before cant remember the one i used but it disolved all the **** in there can put it in a dirty system and it turns the water clear then flush out and top up with coolant.

I personally would not waste the new coolant you have just put in providing it is the 'good stuff'. Just drain it into a bucket and refill the system with rain water and a reputable cleaner, after the recommended period, and having followed the instructions on the cleaner bottle, after flushing, refill with what you have in the bucket. Any contaminants eg, sludge will have floated to the top, or bucket bottom and will be easily strained off.
You will probably have to clean out the overflow bottle again.

did you use the holden pellets, they make a brown sludge in the coolant once it dissolves fully,

no i did not use holden pellets i used calibra concentrate may bey thay used the pellets before and its still leaving a bit of sludge .also in the book it says to remove knock sensors from both sides of the block but does not show eny pics of where thay are ,does eny body have pics info ect

from my knowledge the supercharged models ran knock sensors but not the ecotecs..

reverse flush it again..
pull the radiator hose off your thermostat housing an pull lower hose from engine.. get a garden hose and crank it up the LOWER radiator hose,
next remove your thermostat but temporarily reinstall the housing and blast water in through the housing down through the motor.
next disconnect your heater hoses and with the heater on to open the valve flush heater lines aswell but DO NOT apply much pressure as with the plastic fittings... if you fvck the heaterbox you wont be to happy with the bill..

reinstall thermostat make sure the housing gasket is good n reconnect everything..

get some concentrated coolant.. (comes in 500ml-1l bottles speficaly says concentrate on it)

get the 1l add correct amount to water.. whole system holds 12L in a vt ..

people go wrong by using premixed coolant because you cant completely empty the block and end up with a watered down coolant which inturn lowers the higher boiling point and lower freezing point principles of the coolant..

if its just a rust inhibitor doesnt matter as much but it pas to follow instructions =]

The stock ecotec has knock sensors! found near the middle of the bottom edge of the block, on each side, next to the sump AND just above the cross member. A single wire goes to each one. Hard to see and bloody hard to get at, never mind getting out.
The complete cooling system for the V6, takes 12 liters, I once measured what drained out, by removing the bottom radiator hose, and it was 6 liters, so 6 liters will remain in the block, if the knock sensors are not taken out.
