Default Upgrading alternator to battery connection

Is it simply done by adding a wire (I'll be using 4 gauge) from the bolt at the back of the alternator, to the positive terminal on the battery? Will this actually help at all, or is it just a redundant addition?

    Thanks in advance

Is there a real need to do this, whats wrong with the standard one. Did you whack in in a bigger alt. If not, just make sure its crimped nice at the alternator in the lug and the battery end it tight and it should be all good.

Oh ok.. I've just read on the12volt.com that it's a good idea to do this (upgrading 'the big three'). I just want to do everything I can to stop the bloody headlights dimming with bass hits. I've upgraded my earthing, but I thought this my help to. If not then that's ok, I won't waste my time with it .

The alternator main wire wont make a difference to your lighs dimming with bass. A quality battery with oversize amp main wiring is the only things that will make a big help. Make sure your earth point for the amp is clean, no paint and a tight conection. The only original wiring you should have to upgrade for that is the earth wire that goes from the chasis next to the battery to the battery negative terminal.

ok then thanks for that. I've added an extra 4gauge that's roughly 10cm long from the negative so maybe that's all I'll have to do? Although if I've got more 4gauge left over, I do plan to add another couple. Guess I don't need to worry about much more in the engine bay then, thanks .
