so my car wont start.. battery issues im sure but heres what happens...
i was driving it before and everything was fine.. stopped at a mates for 5 minutes came out and turned her over and it wouldnt start.
now thought it was dead battery but thats not the case (swapped batteries, jumped etc).
i think the terminal for the positive (not the battery terminal but the cars positive plugs) is ****ed because their is corrosion over it and i cant turn the bolt tight enough to get the positive terminal to fasten to the battery (its literally finger loose).
what happens is this.... it has power right... cd player works and red immobilizer light is flashing... then when i try to turn it over... it looses alll power (the odomoter disappears) and i dont have to be turning the key, just have it in the on position. if i turn it back to accessories or whatever, it has power again, but yeh it wont turn over.
and heres another but... i took the after market alarm out today and was driving it fine all arvo. could that have something to do with it? i dont think it does because i dont think this alarm was connected to the immobilizer (i could start the car when the alarm was going off).
any help appreciated as its blocking the way of my mates car getting out of work tomorrow! might have to tow it out of the way perhaps in the morning.
if its the problem with the terminal, which im thinking it is, how do i go about fixing this? do i need to get an auto elec in to put new plugs on? is their a quick fix so i can start it and move it?
any help appreciated thanks guys
btw- have tryed using both keys
if be looking for a thin piece of metal to wedge between the terminal and the clamp to stop it from moving. also check that your alternator is all plugged in correctly. same thing happened to my car when the voltage dropped to 9v or so
i bought new terminals the other day. i got 2 for $3 from jaycar and fitted them myself
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
Have a go at fixing those terminals up, i put a stainless peice of nail in mine to take up some slack. Clean them up to with a wire brush and some hot water on them will do fine. Chech the connection looks ok inside the lug itself where the wire goes in too. Measure your battery voltage to see if its a good 13.5 volts, if its 12 or 11.X, then its mostly flat.
ok thanks for the replies guys. got a screw and put that in between the terminals and worked a treat. going up to a mates work today to fix it up. thanks for the replies though always helpful as usual
Just a quick question, did you remote still open the car? My car has the same issue ATM, no after market alarm though. The thing is that the remote to open the car isn't working either. Have had the key head replaced and still no go. Am thinking BCM. Thoughts?
hey when you buy a new remote part for the key do you have to get it programmed or just put it in and away you go?
the car programs it, i got a =new one the other day and i just put it in the ignition turned it and pressed unlock and it set it.
cool cheers coz my buttons are screwed on both sets
I have a 1999 VS Ute and am having exact same problem it only started yesterday, sometimes the car starts sometimes it doesnt.
I know this is for a VX but if it is a problem with the BCM this may work: Autoelectric City - VX - Holden Commodore - VX
My sister and brother in law have a VY commodore wagon and there car was doing the same, we eventually found the problem, the wires going into the starter motor had come loose and everytime it didnt staret you would pop the bonnet and jiggle the wires going into the starter motor. all fixed now![]()
