    Default A/C Not Working

The air conditioner in my sister's VT Calais is not working, the air only comes out of the front demister vents, and the air is hot.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

There could be many reasons why the A/C is not cold. The main one being, low on gas. Also a faulty pressure switch, a blown fuse, slipping belt, compressor clutch or the compressor itself.
The vent position problem is probably due to there being no vacuum. Check that the thin vacuum hose a the rear if the intake manifold is connected. There are other things it could be but we'll start with that.

Then... further down that thin vaccuum hose is a solenoid pack, under the fan, behind the glovebox. Those solenoid packs commonly fail too, and when they do, you don't get air coming out of where it should or at the temperature you want. About $60 at GMH for a new one.

Thank you for the response, although I'm not quite sure where the intake manifold is.

the intake manifold is the big thing that is in the cente on top of the engine, it takes up nearly all of the top of the engine. You will need to remove the engine cover (if you have one) to see it.

I know what the CAI is. I took off the engine cover and all the hoses and tubes seem to be intact and connected.

The hose I'm talking about is very thin and at the rear, you can't see it from the top. You have to look at the back, near the firewall.
