I had a disimilar issue with my brake light that may help. One of my brake lights would go out, also taking out the taillight.

The bayonet of the brakelight is a split ping and at some point the light had been put put in around the wrong way which made the enclosure split.

have a look at it and see if the light is sitting in the holder correctly.

I bought a new one from my local holden dealership, $40.

    Hope this helps.

most likely its an earthing issue.

clean the connections inside the harness's and globe sockets and make sure the earth wire isnt damaged. If u still have the problem then run another earth wire from the globe socket to some bare steel on the chassis and see if its brighter then

if you can... try to use some sandpaper or nail file or something.
water isnt a good idea as it will corrode the contacts even more.

metholated spirits will work but in the long term it will also corrode the contacts.
so the best method is to sand the layer of crap off the contacts

hmmm well i took a look at the bulb when it was plugged in but with the cover off annd when ive got the accessories on the light doesnt seem to be bright. when you put your foot down on the brake one of the electrodes? in the bulb light up fully wheresas the accessories one behind it doesnt light up that much. you can see a differecne when youve got the brake pedal depressed beccause they both have current running through them. soo it cant really be a grounding isssue.
i took a look at the passenger sides buld and it says 5watt but its got 21v whereas the dimming one has 5w but has 24v on it?

    LOL!! It's a 24V globe!! Probably for a truck - they run 24V systems.

That's why it's so dim - 12V can only push half the current through it, so only half the power. When a globe filament is only running half its rated power it's putting out less than 25% of the nominal light!

Change it for a 12V globe, and it should be sweet.

(also, take the 24V globe back to the dodo who sold it to you, lube it up a little, and jam it up his clacker!!)
