i have a vt berlina and im having a problem with the rear right window, its staying down, not moving seems like i have burnt out the motor because neither of the switches are working on it, seeing as its not going to go up unless i get a new motor for it, it there any way i can manually lift it and fix it in place? or does it have to be via the motor?
Remove the switches and short the contacts, this will rule out the switches being good/bad.
Check the door loom, where it goes to the pilar on the body. These will break with time, mine did because Holden fitted it poorly and it was too tight (metal fatigue in the wires will kill most door looms anyway).
Hot-wire the motor, right at the motor with some jumper leads (or scrap wire, whatever), this will test the motor (be sure to disconnect the motor first). If it works the problem is in the loom somewhere, if it doesn't work the motor is duff.
ok kool, im thinkn the motor or the loom becoiuse neither of the switchs work
A mulitmeter is a handy tool to have... Jaycar, Dicksmith, etc have cheapies for about $10... great for occasion use, and they'll pay for themselves fast.
Search thread for power window sticking, some detailed help descriptions there.
The mech, usually just gums up with dust over time, try lubing the parts of the wires that u can grab by hand. Give the window a pull and try to operate the switches, u may get movement.
The motors dont bust that often, usually just gum up and reach a stocky point they can pull past try help the window while operating the switch.
Metho squirted into the switch mech will remove burnt bits that build on terminals and eventuall fail, make sure you remove the part from wiring first and dont use until dried out properly.
Finally if you do have to replace the motor good luck. Original motor are riveted into door frames.
