just went to start my car and the ignition wont turn. wobbled the steering but that wont do it. have been told that it may be the pin that has dropped out but what ever it is i cant get it out to replace it because it says in my manual that i have to put it into the on postition to get to the pin. what do i do?any way of getting it out??
holden just told me they cant fix it till monday or tuesday....
thanks guys
Your only hope of getting it fixed quickly is a mobile locksmith.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
weve had it happen twice. locksmith will be cheaper than holden but i doubt it will be going until tuesday by the time they get everything. ring local locksmiths and ask who does work for the local holden dealer.
You can get it out if you are handy with tools, but you will need a new barrel and clamp bolt before you start. Take the steering column shroud off and drill the head of the bolt out, then the whole clamp assembly comes off and you can replace the barrel. The bolt is a shear head design the is tamper proof once it is done up. If you do a search on ignition barrel, you will find a few threads on how to change it.
hey guys, i got it out on saturday, just went away over night thinking about it and i then bought a new one and drilled the old one out, i drilled up to the little latched that holds it in and then it came out, wasn't the easiest but a few hrs mukin around and it came out.
thanks for the help
you could of gotten away with jiggling the key around and fishing for the relese pin from the top of the barrelive had to replace my igniton barrel 3 times, all different causes, but 2 of them were stuck in like buggery... but it took about a hour of jiggling and twisting and gentle tapping for the key to finally turn to ON so i could get to the pin and it popped it out

when you get the key to turn, not hard to the whole lock get out for service or replacement.
remove the top and bottom column covers, and the ignition rubber grommet
remove the indicator switch and stalk, remove wire connector to metal ring around the ignition lock.
turn the key to ON
see a pin on top of the lock barrel and insert a nail or whatever fits
the lock barrel assy should come out with the key
If you want/need to inspect the lock barrel and keyways within
look at the rear end of the lock, see a spring loaded pin that rotates with the barrel. You will also see a notch with a ledge before it. With the key in the lock rotate the barrel until the pin is at the ledge, press the pin in to clear the notch and ratate the barrel so that it can come out. Bang you just lost the pin right!
DONT take the key out of the barrel or all the keyways will drop out
check out the keyways for protrusions while rotating in a clockwise direction, it could be that through wear they are preventing the barrel turning. If you figure thats the cause and are really stuck you can file them down a little on the leading side, but it does compromise security as the lock is easier to force.
The inside of the lock barrel is another source of sticky lock. File away any protrusions at the lands inside so that its smooth.
Clear any filings or debris before reassembly
If on reassembly the immobiliser wont allow the engine to start (this happened to mine I have no idea why)
put the key into the ignition lock, turn to ON
press and hold the door button on the key for 5 seconds, that reinstalls the rolling code
then turn the key to start the engine
