Steam? Coming out of dash

Started the car this morning and what looked like smoke came out of the dash. After further investigation and playing with the heater knobs, checking for burnt wirng, I got the car to do it again, and it seems like steam, coming from behind stereo panel, Playing with the Aircon control stops it. I am not sure where to start with this one. Any Ideas, Heater/Aircon system?

it might be a gud idea to take the bottom of the dash off so u have a clear view of everything(might take a while), and then turn the car back on or wateva u do, then see where its cummin from, it might just be a dodgy part in the hearter/aircon, prob wont cost a ****load as u could get parts from the wreckers

vt series 1 had o rings behind the dash for the heater hoses. these 20 cent peices wear out and you have to replace them by pulling the whole dash out.
fixed it on the series 2 the pipes were welded in place.
